Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Ta. I even spoke to someone at the gym. 😆 (Just to ask if they were using a bit of equipment, though.)

Bit of a rollercoaster start to the year for me but hopefully on the up again.
I had my assessment today for a 12 week joint pain management course at Nuffield Health today.

The health check included:

Timed Up and Go Test
Measurement of height and weight to calculate body mass index (BMI)
Measurement of waist circumference.
Measurement of blood pressure.
Measurement of resting heart rate.
Measurement of HBA1c from a finger prick blood test.

Everything was fine apart from weight and waist but I knew that anyway. Looking forward to starting the course on 7th February.

I managed a quick session at the gym for upper body last night and it was pretty pathetic. I guess at least I have a starting point to work from.

That’s exactly how to view it. And you have the potential to make progress and see results relatively quickly.

Hello everyone

I used to do quite a bit of strength stuff once upon a time but now I am a weakling

I stopped doing any when I left working in an office, (I'm full time from home now) as I had a gym directly opposite I used to use every day. Time is a huge issue for me these days, like I don't have anywhere near enough of it and everything is a million miles an hour, so I bought some equipment to do body pump/weights/core at home but I then had a VERY 'bad back' for 18-24 months so could barely do anything at all, never mind weights.

That's as good as fixed now, so I was one of those New Year w**kers and have joined a 6.30am bootcamp. My husband laughed when I said I was going to do this as I am now shocking in the mornings but I have now done 4 weeks of 3x week at a local football club doing bootcamp at horrible o clock! Even de-icing the car in -7 temperatures for it!

I haven't really done any weights at all since before my son was born 4 years ago, well plus pregnancy I guess makes it almost 5 ffs. No wonder I am so weak and feeble, plus I am an old menopausal lady now. I've also started the Les Mills core classes from home. I'll try and add body pump once a week at some point but not all at once eh? ;)

I feel good for it, especially added to all the cycling and running as well :)

You are brave doing early morning, sub-zero bootcamp, GF!
I joined the gym yesterday - I only need to change my membership from swim only to everything, an extra £8 a month, yet it took a hour to sort out. I've got my induction on Monday afternoon.

Any thoughts on this adjustable kettle bell?

I'm not keen on that. It looks quite bulky - I think it would not be ideal for swings, or holding up to your chest for squats, or any sort of elevated carry. And I'm not sure I'd trust it to be secure, swinging it , with the weights somehow fixed inside. Personally, for home use, I am happy with an 8kg and a 12kg one for the moment. Even if you get decent cast iron kettlebells, you're talking half the price of that one from Argos.

quimby speaks sense here. At the gym I only ever really use and 8kg or 12kg kb. If swings are too easy with a 12kg on, switch to doing them single arm.
