Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Just like to say.... the 310XT has gone back to Garmin (spit spit) ... well, to Amazon. Today I did a run using my *old* Garmin 205 instead.

I'm going to stick with that until it drops completely to bits I think... :-) (USB - plugs directly in, plugin has no probs finding it)

The solution for me seems to be

1 - try (and fail) using IE
2 - try and fail using chrome
3 - Try using IE again and success

Running Free presents all your activity but automatically filters out duplicates. If we are to continue to get presented with everything, can't we have this functionality. The upload feature has been made worse not better I'm afraid.

You could try either deleting old FIT files from your computer folder ( the activities are in Garmin Connect and Fetch now, so no real need to keep them, can always export a TCX or GPX file from Garmin ) or set up a new Archive folder somewhere on your PC and move them to there if you prefer to keep these things. Then you'll only be presented in Fetch with the files since you last did the tidy up.

I wondered why a whole load of stuff showed up.

Can we have the upload new stuff option back? I am crap and meddling about moving and archiving stuff I liked the old simple way.

I don't want to be copy and pasting files around as a matter of course everytime I upload to fetch. The process should be easy, not fiddly.

My point (and I don't want to labour it) is that the older method was a piece of piss for the end user and this method is shitty for the end user.

^^ agreed with Argie :-)

I have in fact found yesterday's missing bike ride buried in the list of files, and yes it does seem to sort runs first then rides.

If we can't go back to ye olde fashioned system, then is there a way that a techno numpty like me can remove all those old files periodically ?

The filtering of the list will *definitely* return, and I think I've intimated as much on the thread previously. Just to recap, I've had a *lot* of people telling me that they can't find their training, so the step I took was to remove the filtering on the list, to rule out errors in my code.

It's looking more likely that the majority of problems are caused by Garmin Express, so I *will* be putting the filtering back in place, just asking for a bit of patience is all.

As to the long-term future of the plugin, that's really in the hands of Garmin. Upgrading to Express definitely kills the existing system for mass-import, and they're pushing their users towards that... but I hope and expect that we'll find a way to come out of it smiling.

About This Thread

Just a little note to say thanks for all the comments here and via feedback. The test phase was useful for knocking off a lot of bugs, but there's nothing like the thrill of putting something live to really get that usability feedback flowing :-)

Here's the TO DO list following feedback from users:

1) Solution for only showing runs since last update - DONE
2) Links on successful import to allow direct route to edit/view - DONE
3) Avoid reloading data on choosing different time view.
4) Stop people pressing the button more than once - DONE
5) Auto detect sport where available.
6) Fix rogue pace zones (reported by Duchess, MacApple et al)
7) Max speed (for Mick173)
8) Smoother import of elevation data.
