Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Its not recognised from the 405 either or wasn't the last time I tried. Needed to change it to cycling myself.

I'll make sure that option is available. I've got the basics working now, but it needs a polish before testing.

I think I used to use the Garmin Communicator to upload here, but it died for me about this time last year so now I just put summary data in.

Does this work mean it will be fixed? :)

I'm minimising the amount of code that gets downloaded onto your machine, and keeping more on the server - so in theory it's easier for me to control and debug. Also, there's a common error that's been cropping up relating to stuff being 'Out of memory' (I forget the exact wording). By moving the processing to the server, that should help to alleviate that problem. Of course, with all the different components (user / watch / plugin / ANT agent / browser / internet / server / me) there are plenty of opportunities for cock ups :-)

AoE - sorry to hear you're having problems. To help me diagnose the problem, it would be great if you could send me feedback (link at top of every page) with details, including which Garmin you're using, which method you're using to upload, and what error messages you see, or a description of where things go wrong. Ta.

Likewise, I've had issues importing from my 910XT recently. I get through the import process, and see the screen with the yes/no import options, then as I click import the next screen shows an error message - that really annoying one, that says 'Snap, something's gone wrong' and has a sad faced grey square on it.

I'm fixed it usually my waiting till a bit later on, making sure I don't have anything else running on the laptop and being patient. So I figured it's probably more likely my 'puter. It does seem to churn away doing stuff and I think 'What ARE you processing?'

Hi folks,

I've got a new version of the importer ready for some gentle testing, if you're a-willing:

http://www.fetcheveryone.com/training-import-gcp.php

The key changes over the existing version are:

1) there's less Javascript processing in your browser, so it should run in to fewer problems with memory or lengthy calculations
2) it processes the raw data on the server, using the same bit of code that also handles the GPX/TCX/PWX etc files, so although the output in your 'Notes' field may look a little different to what you're used to, I can make improvements to the core code, and see those improvements reflected across all the different file types.
3) it's a bit jazzier
4) there's some diagnostic information on the left, to help me help you resolve problems.

This ISN'T a fix for those of you who have to upload FIT files one by one, but I would be happy for anyone and everyone to try, so I can build up a profile of what works and what doesn't. I know for example that the importer should work with 310XT's but that some people have struggled - so give it a try, and let's see what we find out.

Cheers
Fetch

About This Thread

Just a little note to say thanks for all the comments here and via feedback. The test phase was useful for knocking off a lot of bugs, but there's nothing like the thrill of putting something live to really get that usability feedback flowing :-)

Here's the TO DO list following feedback from users:

1) Solution for only showing runs since last update - DONE
2) Links on successful import to allow direct route to edit/view - DONE
3) Avoid reloading data on choosing different time view.
4) Stop people pressing the button more than once - DONE
5) Auto detect sport where available.
6) Fix rogue pace zones (reported by Duchess, MacApple et al)
7) Max speed (for Mick173)
8) Smoother import of elevation data.
