Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Gravity isn't a force. It's a field.

Weight is the force due to gravity acting on mass.

If we are being pedantic about it. *checks notes* I think. And this probably makes no difference to the argument either. :P

No, gravity is a force which acts within a field. Weight is a measurement of that force.
Force is also not an outcome, it acts on a body to produce an outcome - acceleration.

LOL Roo. You are absolutely right! According to einsteing gravity is warping space/time and is not an attractive force at all. But Newton's laws (although incorrect universally speaking) are an incredibly good guide for the physics of how things work on planet earth.

he he.

And roo, don't be ashamed of pedantry, it's at the heart of the scientific method.

Magnetism is analogous - a force and a field, and although einstein says that gravity is the manifestation of a warping of spacetime, its effects are that of a force, you have to completely redefine force if you're talking relativistically
