Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I think we're all guilty at some point in going out too fast. The thing is, it all feels fine for the first mile but it's not until that point that your body reacts to what you've just done...and it's usually 'FFS !'

SSLP - exactly...You can just about get away with it for a 5k but I knew when people started coming past me that I'd gone out too hard.

Anyway I'm conscious that I am probably posting all this in an inappropriate thread, but will get onto some proper sub LT work soon... I think I could use it 👍

Thanks NN - happier now looking back at it!
Huntsman - I know, my best 5k times have generally come from decreasing splits. Maybe you can just about get away with a fast 200-400m and then settling, whereas I started looking for others I thought were MV40s and trying to keep infront of them in first mile...What an idiot 😬

Anyway, lesson learnt (hopefully).

Race directors apologise that the Dewsbury 10k was 200m long:

Apology re length of 10K course 2017
6th Feb 2017

Thank you to everyone who ran in or marshalled at the Dewsbury 10K 2017.

I have had a number of emails from runners saying that the course was too long.

They are right. The turn was in the wrong place and as a result it seems the runners ran about 200 metres too far.

This was due to a breakdown in communication, and an error in the setting out of the course.

It was not an error on the part of the course measurer.

It is deeply disappointing to be denied a PB in these circumstances.

I wish that I could turn back the clock but I cannot do so.

May I thank everyone who has drawn this to my attention, particularly those of you who sent the GPS records for this year's and last year's races.

When everyone's Watch measures the course long it does ring alarm bells. The Scottish Half Marathon and Manchester Marathon were the same too weren't they? All watches recorded a shorter distance.

It's the consistency of watches measuring a course wrong. My strava feed kept showing the Dewsbury 10k as 6.3. Real shame :-(

So only 20 secs out with a too fast start to boot. Can't complain really (well apart from having to run further than you should have, lol). Certainly shows its on for next time.

No worries Ptb - It'd be my first reaction too...Are you sure it was long?!!

Yeah, I'm a bit happier with my run now Huntsman. It's good of them to issue a statement, but you wonder how hard it is to get the cones in the right place for a straight out and back run...Never mind, at least I still feel like I'm going in the right direction since my December PB and just need to learn from the first mile pacing fail, and get it right next time!

I wasn't one of those who Emailed them my GPS by the way ;-)
