Thanks Daz, it was going to be a 5k against my new rival who pipped me by seconds in my last 10k, but he's struggling with his Achilles so just going there anyway to see what the course is like but it's meant to be a pretty flat 3 lapper at Poolsbrook, so who knows I might surprise myself after an unintentional taper (and xmas carb loading)....Not ideal prep for a 5k but should be fresh at least

Park run completed in 17:43, equalling my PB for 2nd place at Poolsbrook Parkrun near Chesterfield.
Was beaten by a man with a dog...I kid myself that he was being dragged along by it, but in reality he was clearly a superior runner and went away from me in the final lap (3/3).
Back to the HR training and a long run tomorrow morning if I can convince my wife to get up with the kids again....

Brunski, that really puts my 19:22 to shame. Brilliant running.
Re the dogs ,I think runners can get an advantage depending on the type of dog. I was beaten once by a guy with a dog. I did twice forge ahead when the dog stopped for a drink in puddles but they were better than me in the end !!
I might aim for my first 20 miler tomorrow but keep the HR nice and easy

Felt easy at first, working for a bit then hard for the last mile into the wind. I couldnt have gone much harder, but did still have the remnants of the cold in my system. My nose and eyes were streaming and the effort had me coughing a bit. In a few weeks time I could go faster. Next opportunity will be NYD but will need to be well behaved the night before !

No shame in a 19:23 Baz 👍 There's a clear correlation between miles run and my times, the more aerobic runs I do the better they are - Is this the same for everyone? I know it will be beneficial for longer distances but the 5k you get people who hardly run 20 miles a week who can go sub-18.

Or a 19:22 either 😳
The dog 'pulling' the guy was quite small and snaking around a bit from side to side but he definitely gained the 20 seconds or so he beat me by from it 😂😂
He also cut a corner when overtaking some slower runners 😡

Got away for a nice long run this morning, my TomTom heart rate watch behaved itself and managed to run it all to heart rate with a 145 bpm ceiling, which is about 70% or thereabouts MHR.
It was an undulating route but very happy with the run and pace.
Split Summary === 1) 1m - 7:24(7:24/m) 133/148bpm 2) 1m - 6:45(6:45/m) 141/148bpm 3) 1m - 6:28(6:28/m) 143/149bpm 4) 1m - 6:42(6:42/m) 145/160bpm 5) 1m - 6:34(6:34/m) 142/151bpm 6) 1m - 8:31(8:31/m) 144/150bpm 7) 1m - 7:11(7:11/m) 143/147bpm 8) 1m - 6:57(6:57/m) 142/148bpm 9) 1m - 7:53(7:53/m) 143/148bpm 10) 1m - 7:36(7:36/m) 144/148bpm 11) 1m - 7:48(7:48/m) 144/149bpm 12) 1m - 7:08(7:08/m) 143/146bpm 13) 1m - 7:33(7:33/m) 143/148bpm 14) 0.44m - 3:10(7:10/m) 145/148bpm

That is indeed a cracking run. My LR of 19 miles following a parkrun yesterday was quite laboured and my legs were heavy and HR higher than I would have liked.
