Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I've got a 735xt, I'm probably on the wrong thread.

I like data, especially HR and how efficiency changes over time. The fitness age thing sounded a bit gimmicky to me, sure someone a few pages ago said their age jumped from 30 something to 50 something and they're 58. Another who'd age had dropped significantly without exercising.

I'm pretty sure my fitness age would be considerably lower than my actual age, doesn't remove the grey hairs though does it 😂

I think that jump was a change in the way they calculate it, basically a hard limit at 7 years before your real age. It did seem a bit silly me having a fitness age 30 years less than my real one, though there are folk 20 years younger I can still give a run for their money (not very fast folk, but still regular runners)

Wonky GPS problems today 🤷‍♂️

Did Keswick parkrun, it didn’t like the tunnel, fair enough. Then went for a wander round Keswick but GPS teleported me to Eel Crag followed by a quick flight past Wandope and on to Newlands Hause then another jump back to town!!

My 645 had a crisis of identity this evening. Whilst sorting out something else with Bluetooth, I noticed I had a "OnePlus Buds Z2" connected to my phone which was a device I didn't recognise. So I hit "forget" and thought no more of it.

Later I scanned to see if the rogue BT device was still around, and it was. So I downloaded BT strength app and walked around the house trying to locate it. I could never get more than 1m away. Having no other BT items on me I put my watch in another room, and sure enough the app now showed I was 10m away from the device. Tested this a few times to prove the point.

So opened up Connect and sure enough it wasn't connected anymore since I'd "forgotten" the device (in first paragraph).

How did my 645 get a different name? Does the mac id carry manufacturer info?

Repaired it all via Connect and all is good again, but definitely an odd experience.

Whereas normal NICs have the manufacturer's ID as the first 3 hex pairs, it's not quite as straightforward for BT. Publicly registered addresses have the first 24 bits represent the manufacturer. These all have to be registered with IEEE. Which is why random addresses are more prevalent, and these don't have any sort of manufacturer ID. So I'd be surprised if this is why the name appears different. But no idea why it should change unless it's a bug in the BT implementation.

This might be unachievable, but Spotify now has pocasts which are effectively a bit of chat, then a song, then some chat, then a song etc etc. Presumably there is something "clever" in the podcast which prompts spotify to play the song etc.

Works fine on my phone, but was hoping i could sync the podcast to my watch for occasional running use. However, when the podcast syncs to the watch all I get is the chat without the songs.

Anyone know if it is possible to get the whole thing sync'd to the Garmin watch so I can listen to Rob Deering's Running Tracks with the actual music included?

I'm guessing they are using their real-time ad-insertion technology to insert music (maybe as paid for advertising by certain artists?) when listening "live" and they are using a different source for downloads which does not do this. On the plus side it might mean podcasts on the watch are free of dynamically inserted ads? :)

You can use Audacity or a similar problem to record the playback output of your sound card, ie you play the podcast then record it as an mp3 hich you can subsequently upload to your watch. It's a faff but it's possible.
