Here’s your chance to be wise before the event.
Instead of England winning / losing in a glorious semi final defeat and afterwards everyone saying, “Told you he was the right man for the job”, or being embarrassingly knocked out of the group stage / losing timidly in the QF and afterwards everyone saying, “Told you he wasn't the right man for the job”, here’s your chance to be wise before the event and put on record whether you think Gareth Southgate is the right manager for England at Euro 2024.
You don’t have to give a reason, though FWIW my view is yes he is, and people forget how much stronger off the pitch England are than before Southgate (and yes, I know it’s all about trophies but Southgate has a better tournament record than all but one previous England manager).
So, Gareth Southgate: yes or no?

Yes. His record is unrivalled by any previous England manager.

He's the right man for the job. Doesn't mean we're entitled to win this (or any) tournament, though. Sport is inherently unpredictable, and all the "It'll be an embarrassment if we don't win it" blowhards would do well to remember that.

In most tournaments I've watched (1986 onwards) England have generally got to the knock-out stages and lost to the first half-decent side we've played.
The Southgate tournaments are the only ones that have broken that pattern in a good way. In 2018 we beat a decent looking Columbia and Sweden side who knocked out the Netherlands, Italy and Germany in qualification/group stage. In 2021 Germany weren't bad and Denmark were quite good. They are the sort of games we've lost in previous tournaments.
I'm not seeing why a team with no track record of winning difficult knock-out games would replace a manager who has consistently done that. We have a change of success with Southgate; without him we'll go out to the first good team we face.

No. He's had his time. Plus I don't like waist coats. QF at best, shaky defence, although that's not all his fault. Mark my words.
