Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I have nothing to compare it to versus the two other more difficult options but:

the 3.5 miles or so down the road took me just 35 minutes
the following 3 up the other side a more laboured hour.

A quick sneak at Anna's times and the climb included nearly her slowest mile of the entire race. I was speaking to (what I didn't realise at the time) was one of her clubmates afterwards and she said Anna doesn't see the point of walking up hills when you can run them. So despite it not being the worst hill of the course on the face of it, it's still a tough one.

Can't remember whose blog it was I was reading after Sunday and this conversation about the different routes, but I saw the phrase something along the lines of "there's nothing more miserable than Fleet Moss in the cold and dark"!

Though your above description was how I felt last year over Great Whernside. This year could barely have been more different.

I have just re-read it and it brought back horrible memories!

Quite a lot relatable to either or both of my outings in there even if we had very different days out. You paint a lovely picture of Middle Tongue and have also answered my question of whether there was an extra CP (Middle Tongue + Chapel Moor) though I doubt you can't really not go to where the Chapel Moor CP is if you have gone to Middle Tongue. And it's obvious how much I've got away with the weather on both years even last year to a lesser but still significant enough extent.

@cackleberry if that was the year you got your finish then we're talking the same year.

Fleet Moss makes the Middle Tongue bit look easy!

That's the one @flanker .

I had recced Fleet Moss 3 times, in clear pleasant weather and still had no idea where I was! I was actually relieved we didn't have to go that way anymore.

I recce'd the line across Fleet Moss extensively, dropping a little further south than was first envisaged for the first part - it avoided the bulk of the peat groughs as I recall. And how can we be having this conversation without mentioning the Deepdale blue mug, 🙂

The blue mug! Is it still there?
On one of our recces, we noticed it had become dislodged and I remember holding my pals ankles as he dove over the wall to retrieve it!

Don't suppose anyone is up at Stuc a Croin today for the British champs series long race? Struggling to find any info on results etc (might be a data dead spot!)

Phone signal is a bit dodgy in Strathyre. Did think of going down to spectate (only about 12 miles from me) but didn't bother in the end
