Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

So how did Harriers v Cyclists go? Did you have a go too DT?

Julie - I think I saw a post from your Wetherby mate on FB. Quite controversial, I get the impression he isn't a regular fell runner? He criticised the time cut-off at CP4 and I really didn't agree with him.

What's the consensus here about time cut-offs? This is topical at the moment, the person who came last at Harriers v Cyclists did so in a time that had to be a very slow walk from start to finish and a few people are talking about it. Bobs thought it was selfish and I agree with her. I personally am of the opinion that in a fell/mountain race they're a necessary evil and there for the runner's safety as much as the marshalls. If a given runner can't meet a given standard, they put themselves at serious risk and of course, it's just not fair to have marshalls out on the mountains for ridiculous amounts of time. Some cut-offs are tight I know, I'm thinking the controversy at a recent Skyrunning event, the cut-off at the Old County Tops is very tight for some runners.

Thoughts?

pretty much agree with you NE. They are there for there safety of the runners, but maybe more importantly the safety of the volunteers who give ups their time to enable the runners to have their fun. These people are stood around, often in pretty hideous conditions, and are probably more at risk from he elements than the runners are moving and generating some heat.

As long as the cut-offs are declared alongside entries I don't think anyone can complain. If you're of a pace that you're going to be close to the cut-off either don't enter or accept that you could be pulled out. Or get off your arse and do some appropriate training ;-)

Well done at Pendle, sounds like a tough day out.

I had a great time at H vs C thanks. After 8 months of injury and general apathy I knew it wasn't going to be pretty, and it wasn't. Took about an hour and managed to beat the only other Wetherby runner (riding), by 2 mins so was happy. Just felt great to be racing.

I don't agree with Richards point about cut-offs (on fb). They're there for a reason, runners and marshalls safety. If you don't like them, don't do the race. I think he's still bitter about missing the cut off at 3p last year. Another race he hadn't recce'd. You're right, he'd not a fell runner, very much a road runner dabbling.

As for my colleague, he enjoyed the 1st and last mile of ToP, was in top 30 off Geronimo, finished about 120ish in 3:15 ish. Completely lost it on the last couple of climbs, admits he under estimated it, apparently he is never doing it again! He does now understand the need for kit and has subsequently ordered some, so that's something.

Tell you what Julie, 3:15 at Pendle isn't a bad outing for someone who doesn't run on the fells that often - kudos to him I'd say :-)

Wasn't there a similar development at/near Honister a few years ago?
