Orkney and Shetland are great, but by the time you've paid for the van and a couple of passengers onto the ferry you could have paid for a trip to the south of France.

Last August we managed 2 weeks away touring, we worked our way through Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Northumberland and Scotland and back down again, nothing was booked, we did do quite a few campsites RunningRonnie! I was running every day at 5am in a different place! Best holiday I’ve ever had!

Things are changing though, local residents are much less tolerant of wild camping. I've seen that in the Lakes very recently and also here in Yorkshire.
