Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

He found him ok but can’t work out what’s happened, other than he’s pretty sure it’s not what his dad said happened. It’s always someone else’s fault when he bangs or scratches the car and this time there’s damage to one of the wheels which means the car is undrivable, and it’s hard to marry up FiL’s version of events with the evidence.

And his phone won’t charge. And his car battery is flat with the windows down, because he was sitting with the hazards on for a couple of hours. And Green Flag have totally messed up the booking to assist him (basically they were supposed to organise help hours ago but nobody did it). And then FiL got out of the car for no reason when OH told him to stay sitting down, and fell backwards abs banged his head - this is becoming an all to familiar occurrence, we think it’s blood pressure related but not sure. It took 3
people to pick him up. He seems ok and OH is watching him carefully while he waits for his sister to come and collect him. He can’t take him home himself as the car windows are stuck open and if he leaves it he says it will be stripped in minutes.

And he’s missing the football. It’s not been the best of evenings. I’ve offered
to go and swap places but he’s said he’s ok for the time being.

Paula, maybe suggest an ambulance as he hit his head. At the mention of an RTC you would also get police attendance and then the question of future driving may be taken out of the family’s hands

Sounds like a difficult evening. But perhaps a good opportunity to keep the car out of use for the future.

Oh my. Hope this is the wakeup call he seems to need. Was anyone else involved?

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
