Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Apple have it on the latest phones in the US (Satellite calls to emergency services); I presume at some point this will come more universal?

For occasional use you can rent satellite phones, might be easier if you don't need it often?

Sam, I usually rent a spot tracker for occasional use...
Trying to cover myself when out for a casual stroll in the village...

I remember reading something a few years ago saying SMS can sometimes get through even when there isn't enough signal for a phone call.

Depending on how "no signal" your "no signal"is, this might be worth reading: firstaidtrainingcooperative.co.uk

um
999 will also work on any signal, not just the one you're signed up to.
But unlikely if the phone is in the river.

It wouldn't be an ideal solution but carrying a whistle could be a cheap option (at least it may alert someone mobile to your plight!)

I have a look at that jacdaw. Spot isn't cheap either and all sattellite beacons need a subscription, which I am happy with. Cannot get a Spot.

Got something to say?

And by this I do not mean yes, it works on wifi...

I mean: I am in the middle if scenic nowhere. I have just fallen down a waterfall and in stead of my shoulder, I have fractured my leg so I cannot walk out, I have to call Mountain Rescue.

I was just told, and this person was adamant, that Whatsapp works everywhere?
