Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

It does doesn't it, WA? I think most of the regulars are here but we have New Newt Jinglers which is brilliant.

I was concerned hardly anyone would be keen this year - but quite the opposite and everyone taking part has really got on board with the whole of the idea. Dead pleased, me!

I find everyone's newts so uplifting and inspiring :D

Office working newt is going well (after the traditional rocky IT issue ridden start), it's so nice to see real actual people, including some who have joined my teams in the last year and I'd never met in person before.

I'm intrigued to see how the plants in the yard of my apartment are doing later.

Update - I assembled it and took it down to Mr GM in his shed. We had lunch in his shed for the first time ever, so a double newt. It was a really good combination of flavours. I'm looking forward to having the rest of it for lunch tomorrow.

I just had a run in new shoes :)
the extra Newt is that they are a men's pair, as they were the only pair of what I wanted I could find in my size - no idea what the difference is, but they fit nicely.

I've just taken delivery of a Flanci skort too, but not in time to wear it (them? whatever) to run today although it's plenty warm enough for shorts here.

Today I listened to some newt music. Instead of selecting a known artist or album from Spotify or, even more predictably, playing my liked tracks, I selected a playlist of top tracks from 2020. The selection was mixed (and the source ensured that it wasn't chart stuff) but I found at least a couple of of things I really liked, plus I now know of a load of ultra-cool obscure artists.

I will go into more detail in a blog.

GM I’ve looked at that recipe before but wasn’t convinced by the combination despite liking all the main components. Not to mention quince paste?!? I think I’ll give it a go now I have real feedback on it.

sounds good but the thing that puts me off some recipes is the occasional ingredient that you won't have and don't know what to do with such as quince paste!

You can usually find a substitute for unusual ingredients - I google and then use my common sense: What's the ingredient adding to the recipe? Could it do without?

As for beetroot - I think a lot of people are put off by early experiences of hard or soggy pickled beetroot that stained everything red. I love anything doused in vinegar but lots of people don't and I'd urge them to try beetroot roast or boiled but NOT pickled. We grow our own and Raffo -previously a confirmed beetroot denier- now loves it. It's not hard to grow and you can eat the tops as greens. AND the stripey, golden and white varieties are all wonderful and have noneof the bad associations.

They're dead pretty and unlike some coloured veg - purple beans for instance - the colours are still there after cooking. Pink and white stripes! Deep golden yellow! Fabulous.

starblackheartstar The sixth running of Do a New Thing for Spring starblackheartstar

Lent has a special and specific meaning to Christians but has become an secular season of denial and hair shirting that serves no positve purpose. No chocolate, no booze, no -er - other stuff.

Why not treat the build up to Easter - as a chance to celebrate and embrace NEW THINGS - that's what spring is about after all.

The first few pages of the thread give more ideas.
