Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

This is a rather worrying report, US doctors finding unusual numbers of serious strokes in younger (30-60) people who are found to also be carrying the virus but with minimal symptoms, and wondering if the blood clotting is an effect of the virus or of the bodies’ response to it.

Covid is already recognised to be massively thrombogenic, we have seen lots of PEs and thromboembolic strokes. This is another part of the morbidity issue - it’s not just about mortality.

I’ve not seen many articles on schools reopening and what measures might be taken, this is from the US but covers a lot of bases:

My guess is that the 2 m guidance comes for the demonstrated range of droplet spread for a cough or sneeze. In that the range of spread of very small droplet can be greater than 2 metre and large droplets might spread less than 2 metres, so 2m is perhaps a reasonably compromise taking account of what is practical. I suspect that possibility that someone will cough over you is small, though I think if someone coughed near me without covering their mouth, I would feel more comfortable if they were 2 m away.

My US cousin at 30 years had a major stroke. Died 9 years after so doubt it was anything to do with Covid. My Aunt believes it was due to her diet (mainly ate instant noodles and drank orange juice)....

Someone mentioned a bit earlier that for other coronaviruses the infectious stage is pre-symptomatic seeming to suggest that was the likely case for c19.

Just want to point out that is not really what WHO conclude and they have outlined it here specifically for c19 on page 2: who.int

re distancing I am comfortable e Pugh passing someone at a responsible distance for the short time it takes to pass example in supermarket of someone wants to pass while I’m collecting items from shelf or if they are clearly just going down a aisle to ge to where they need to be. Same outdoors on a walk if I can I’ll pull off the path/cross the road.

But I’m less comfortable if I see someone I know while out and we stop to have a chat then I have as much distance as is possible. If someone in my vicinity coughed or sneezed I’d be out of there I certainly wouldn’t hang around for any reason. But I’ve not come across any such people thankfully.

In an ideal world we would all know if we were infected and have proper stats but that is not possible as you could be infected a few days after a negative result. For me it’s about keeping me safe from infection which in turn keeps others safe from infection.

Interring call with work yesterday that they are expecting working from home to become the preference even after this is (hopefully) under control/no more risky than normal flu/with vaccine. So already talk of huge changes.

I wondered if wfh might become more normal for some workers after this. It makes sense to reduce traffic on roads and is more efficient time-wise (no commuting time) but there is the lack of social connection which will be a big issue for some people.
