I’m not saying v-D would save people from covid but much like a healthier lifestyle it could offer some additional support.

Strangely enough my wife was getting us all to take VitD supplements this winter as a generall overall health boost to supplement the lack of sunlight. Seemed logical to a degree, and risk free. Spedding's book (Stop Feeding Us Lies) I found reasonably compelling in parts (notably those parts which allowed me to eat what I want!), but there's a nagging doubt that he is just a crazed loon too. Though there's no doubt in my mind that a healthier diet is definitely something which supports overall wellbeing and health. A little bit of everything in moderation seems a sensibly enough cautious approach. On masks, I see Bojo is going public with recommending them in shops in England now. It would be nice at least once for the UK's PM to lead the (right) way in an approach to C19 rather than just follow the trends. |

I would agree that it would be vit D status before contracting Covid that is likely the benefit. The links to the research in the bhf article don't lead anywhere now, so I wonder whether it has been retracted or published elsewhere. The biggest issue for much of this research is when their vit D level was measured. If it's after they've already been infected, then vit D may well be depleted because they're ill. Most other studies have had to look at historical vit D levels which may not reflect the situation when the patients contracted covid-19. It's very difficult. |

I think that quite a lot of the UK population would have low Vit D levels coming out of the winter. Forest - will their travel insurance not cover it or the holiday company allow them to transfer the holiday to a different date? My neighbour has just done the latter with an August package holiday as despite being able to go they did not feel comfortable with the risk. |

I was interested to find out that vitamin D isn’t a vitamin at all but a hormone.

V-D was a big issue in Oman and most people were prescribed V-D, bizarrely when I had my medical my levels were ok, the thinking was despite being in a very hot country Omanies and indeed a lot of ex-pats avoided the sunshine. One friend started to get up and have her morning brew in the garden at 6.30 and her levels improved without needing supplements. I still sat outside a lot of the day even if it was hot - I am definitely a cactus. I then read about Spanish flu and that they found people who were allowed fresh air and sunshine during recovery did better than those who were kept indoors, hence reading the article I picked up on the V-D comment. |

Fresh air has been associated with better outcomes for a long time, and I'm definitely in favour of better public health (eg diet and exercise) generally. But there is a wealth of readily accessible authoritative information about the epidemic, and someone who persists in claiming that it just went away is either delusional, dishonest, wilfully ignorant or just too stupid to be taken seriously. How can the reader be expected to believe anything else they say, if they can say that?
