That's interesting. I wonder if that's due to land access? The fellside north of lower wall line on The Nab is (notoriously) private and the landowner is known to get a bit shirty if you stray on to his patch in an attempt to get further up Martindale. I did it, then climbed up the side of Beda Fell to Boredale Hause - wasn't caught though ![]() |

Paul stopped for something like 45 mins at Martindale I think from looking at the time stamps on his route. The way Paul and Steve approached The Nab isn't a PROW and crosses land outside the CROW area. Strictly there is no direct access from Martindale and the estate direct you to follow the footpath round via Angle Tarn. dalemain.com (there is a trod that goes from the track by The Bungalow up the end of The Nab that I may have used to descend in stealth mode ![]() |

Sorry miscalculation, make that about 60 mins for Paul at Martindale.

God yes, it is horrible and boggy - we did a similar out-and-back to The Nab late last year, I remember the trod to the summit of Rest Dodd was blocked by a particularly smelly dead sheep.

Drifting slowly further from her schedule - but not dramatically so? Is there dome thing odd about the trace past Angletarn Pikes, or did she miss? |

Oh, that's strange - when I typed that, I'd seen a straight line missing by quite a distance, next time I look there's a kink in the trace hitting the top in the right place - gps quirk.

Be interesting to see what we wake up to - if she can keep going at her steady pace ( good on downhills, losing a bit on uphills ), and has her planned 2 hour rest, then she should be about an hour up on Paul leaving Glenridding

She seems to be struggling on the rougher ground and the steep climbs but her speed on the more runnable sections and the downhills is impressive, at the moment that is keeping her in contention and get time back against her schedule. Normally people's ability to push downhill goes long before the ability to climb, her quads must be in remarkable condition. I think you are right about Glenridding Gus as long as she doesn't hit a really bad patch like last night. From what I understand the option of stopping early saved her losing a lot more time. Tonight there aren't any early road crossings to come to her rescue. |
