Do they mention beginners on their website? My local one said they wanted you running 6 miles before joining. They later started a beginners group and now they let the beginners actually join. Look around and see if there's another one around locally or go to parkrun and try to get talking to the locals, you should be able to find a club or some buddies there. Good luck.

parkrun is a good way of spotting clubs as people often run in club vests so you can always ask them. Have a look at their race results and see what sort of times they have - I did that and was reassured to see there were plenty in my age group running at around my speed! I'd try again - all clubs are run by volunteers and they may well have full-time jobs and just not have had time to respond yet.

Max my club welcomes beginners but I'm the person who answers email enquiries - with the best will in the world I don't always respond very quickly (though only being away from t'nternet would mean a delay of over a week.)

Looking at some of the local parkruns I would be on the slower side but I won't disgrace myself. I ran 5K yesterday in 28:34 (it was a charity run so was slightly more than 5K, time based on my splits). To be fair the club website doesn't mention beginners but they do twice yearly C25K programs which I am past now obviously. I'll try emailing them again. As I run a website for another local organisation I can be a little tardy responding to emails myself at times

Hi MD, Parkruns are great, as AL says above, for meeting club runners I did this myself although I'm unable to join a club and enjoy the benefits because I work evenings. A 28/29 min 5k time is good and you wouldn't disgrace yourself even at 40 minutes on a Parkrun. Good luck.

Our club do a beginners intake once a year. Otherwise they like you to be able to run for 40mins but it doesn't have to be fast.

Well, I'm getting close to being able to run 40 minutes, I did 35 mins last week I'm lucky I have a choice of two running clubs where I live, I would rather go to the one that's down the road from me rather than the other side of town. The other one however does welcome beginners according to it's website.

I tried contacting the running club again and got a reply within 5 minutes! I'm joining them next week for a trial run
