Fetch's idea is a good way of getting round that! Like the 8 groups, nobody will want to be left behind to repeat a week...

I think Nellers was talking about graduating out of the C25K group, and into the wider Fetch community.

I know what you mean Colette, I'm just saying that people are fairly predictable in when they start. Or restart, you can see it with bloggers and people in threads, there are definite temporal waves of activity starting and restarting.

I think that promoting the whole scheme around those times makes a lot of sense.

Controversial thought - why not go with one group for people on C25K already so people are quickly exposed to the idea that they have something to give back and support people. And the new starters might relate to support from someone who isn't that much further ahead. Rather than a group per week which won't have the potential for that.

That's not controversial, it's a great idea. It might happen organically though if there are enough people, those in week 3 can pop back and encourage those in week 1, graduates can pop back in and cheer on those struggling in week 5...

Sounding good so far
C25K is not the only way people start running though, I know of a couple of people for whom it didn't work very well - not sure if they're on here or whether it was via weightlossresources - will see if I can find the blogs Are there other well-known programmes ? doesn't one of the running shops have one and I think one of the gym chains does too. Wouldn't want to alienate beginners who think they are not "doing it the right way for Fetch"
Oh and weightloss resources reminds me - getting control of weight issues is partly why many people start to run. The food logging function on here isn't brilliant any way of linking in to other resources/ improving what we have? would that help retain newbies?

I would add a section on basic stretches (fetchstretch?) as this is the one thing that we all neglect on returning from injury and starting out. Make it sensible for unfit unbendy people like me, not the get fit in 6 minutes do the splits then a one handed handstand nonsense that the papers seem to push.

There are several couch to 5k running plans but all tend to be called same sort of thing . I used the NHS choices couch to 5k. I like the idea of a seperatw thread or area of forum for newbie runners , either who have recently completed some sort of beginner interval run walk training. Dont lots pf poeple start running because of race for life . on their website they have beginners running plans. I lile to read stories of others who have started running maybe later in life or through some sort of difficulty can be very inspirational. I think your forum already seems very supportive
Real life atories or accounts give a face of success. also to show not everyone who starts running is in their twenties or super fit and toned supermodel.
When I was a non runner I used to think because I'd hated running at school I would always hate it and not be good at it. As I got older I realised actually running would for in most readily with my life and decided to give it a go. It was from a chance comment by my sister about a friend who'd taken up running using a series of podcasts which got my interest and I decided to find out more.
Althougg I started running a couple of years ago, because of breaks for pregnancy etc I feel like I'm only just beginning my proper running joirney. I have lots to learn about most aspects of running but don't like to ask questions that long users of site have heard before. Some sort of thread with common newbie questions would be helpful
Sorry I'm probably waffling now

I'm nearly at the point of making the beginners pages live. There'll be a box on those pages where new runners can post questions - and those questions will come to this thread. So if you're a regular Fetchie, it'd be great if you could follow this thread, so that you can be on hand to give them a warm welcome, and help with any questions.
