Have you tried different places in the car for him so that eg if he has always been sick when in the boot, put him on the back seat or the front footwell.
I know it's not the same but when I had a horse that wouldn't load in a horsebox I was advised to take her into the box to feed her and then bring her out again after she'd eaten her food. Maybe giving Indi a small feed (rather than just a treat/reward) in an area of the car where he hasn't travelled/been sick might help. Obviously if that's going to be the front seat/footwell it wont work as he grows bigger, but he might be more used to it then. And obviously don't give the feed once you progress to a short journey as that might come back up sooner than you'd like

Poor little Indi
Charlie has never been travel sick thankfully, but I was going to suggest similar to BBL. Charlie is very happy to travel in the boot in his crate, but on the odd occasion he's had to travel on the seat/footwell in MrAtC's car he's whined and looked very uncomfortable. Maybe something as simple as trying his crate in different areas of the car might help?

Oh, and I'm sure I saw somewhere that you can get like "raised beds" for in the car, so they can look out of the window - that might help?

halfpint
This is a bit off the wall but I was in a school the other day and a teacher was telling me that if you get the kids to sit on a newspaper it stops them being car/travel sick. They use that approach when doing school trips apparently. Might be something in it once you do get Indi in the car for a short journey.

I'm intrigued as to why sitting on a newspaper would prevent car sickness?!

I've no idea and the teacher didn't have a clue but she said it had proven to work on numerous trips. Maybe it absorbs vibrations or something???

At least if he was on newspaper if he was sick (or worse) the newspaper might take the hit before the upholstery

It is psychological halfpint. Works every time. Even worked on my daughter on a ferry - as soon as she stood up from her newspaper she was sick!!

some great advice here thanks, so today I moved him to a different crate as he had almost outgrown the original one anyway and moved it from passenger seat to back of my jeep type car.
I put in fresh carpet that didn't smell of sick or the old crate (!) and his favourite blanket, sat him in with a tripe chew and sat next to him in the boot and read a book After about 10 mins I started the engine and sat with him again but in the drivers seat. We didn't go any where and he wasn't sick but did wee himself; bless.
I took him out again later and repeated with a very short drive down the road and back and he was ok and less stressed. I will repeat tomorrow. fingers crossed
