RS - I'd be putting in a formal complaint about them, surely they're not allowed to misrepresent you like that.
Our move has been put back to mid-Feb.

Two of my friends said agents do things like that to speed things up.
The reason the buyer gave the agent is that they couldn't afford the lease renewal charge of £2k for 99 years. There's 97 years on the lease already. £2k is about the lowest charge for adding years on! If they're fretting over that, they've been given bad advice.
The other reason given was worry over possible future charges for repairs and maintenance. It's a block of 4 x 1-bedroomed flats. If the roof fell off that would be approx shared between 4 flats.

I thought it was a corporate buyer?
Thing is, if people become uncontactable, or the legal things aren't moving on, it does start to look dodgy. Which was why I was getting really twitchy in the last few weeks, though it was mainly some small legal issues that the solicitors were sorting
I did my best to do everything requested of me straight away, so it would not be me holding up the sale. And it wasn't, it was my buyers who'd expressed a wish to exchange quickly!!!
I suppose on the up-side at least you hadn't found anywhere ideal to move into and lost that due to the sale falling through. What about the potential viewers the agents had a few days ago?

It was some buy to let twat called Cassandra Cnut-Face. #hollow laugh# A time and money wasting b#stard. The agents have booked someone in to look at 2.30 tomorrow who apparently asked about it before but the sale had just been "agreed".
I produced all my info straight away. They had no excuse to faff around. All that time to get to this. They shoulda told us earlier.
She is a naive little twat and I hate her for doing this. what a complete thicko idiot. Her solicitors too. Wankers and clueless shites all round.

Yes, ridiculous that they hadn't factored in what being leasehold meant before putting the offer in, let alone letting things get so far.

The buyer obviously hasn't done her research, and the solicitors didn't advise her very well.

I said both those things to my sold. Why didn't they just ask me about maintenance costs? They are minimal and sometimes we get a rebate. 21.50 per month service charge!

It's 18y since I last moved so I did a fair amount of research online about what to look for when viewing houses, and asked lots of questions of the estate agent and solicitor.
I suspect she hadn't really thought it through, thought that buy to let was a good way to make money but realised it would cost her more than just the mortgage.
Unfortunately there's no way of making sure the person who plans to buy your property isn't an idiot.

If I get another offer I'm going to insist on meeting them to talk through the financial side. I can't have this happen again as I will have to take out a loan for legals next time.
