I can confirm the that pedalling from the sofa is a good thing if you can't do anything else. I had one after my accident a few years back and pedalled til it broke.

Maybe I should get my Mum one. Apparently she can no longer carry a basket of washing out to the line

Wish my Mum had 2 functional legs. She would have liked one of those!
She has an awesome hoist sling thingy though. (I'll post a picture.) But she hates it for all that it represents. š£
Getting older slowly is cruel. I think it's better than the alternative, but sometimes I wonder.

3M, my S17 has ceiling track hoists in his bedroom and bathroom. Iāve resisted putting one in the living room so far as Iād like a space where disability (thatās not strictly true, I fully accept that⦠perhaps āequipmentā is a better word) doesnāt stare me in the face every minute. He stays in his wheelchair or we manually hoist him in his sling to the sofa when heās in here. Getting bigger though (probably 13-14yr size).
Weāve just had additional handrails installed and permanent led lighting on the stairs for OH. His dementia has been hard work lately. Probably foolish to hope that things settle once the kids get back to school but Iām massively struggling at the moment. He still has capacity and understands his diagnosis, but the change in his personality is stark and his inability to āfunctionā is wearing.
He talks a good talk - the factual detail is all wrong though, so weāre in the period where outsiders would wonder what my problem is as he seems totally fine! There is no such thing as a partnership and I feel very alone. Totally depressing when you consider heās still relatively early stage. Iāve had a week off and am twice as tired as when I left. Canāt wait to get back to the office tomorrow!

Gosh Kaysdee I do feel for you. Do you get any respite at all (other than at work, which is hardly 'respite')?

Oh Kaysdee that sounds like a lot of hard work to carry all by yourself. X
Sister has had a call today that if all his tests are negative they are hoping the specialist transport will be in place for the 27th to move dad up to the care home here.

That's a very hard thing, Kaysdee. Sorry.
Mum was always resistant to permanent alterations, so most of her equipment is at least mobile.
