Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I was going to say about how altering hand placement changes which muscles are prioritised in the press up, Tipsku’s already done it.

Pulling yourself down in the concentric phase of a press up makes the eccentric phase easier by using reciprocal inhibition. It “switches off” the antagonist muscles more quickly/effectively.

Nope, you’re not talking rubbish at all EP.
R.I. can be used for sets of multiple reps, but it takes time and effort to learn because of the coordination required. I think it’s more effective technique for heavier weights at lower reps because the harder and longer you pull the more effective it becomes. It’s the effect powerlifters use on bench & squats, which is why the eccentric phase on those lifts is so slow for them.

I really struggle with narrow push-ups and much prefer wide arms. I’ve had some shoulder impingement which is definitely felt on the narrow ones so I generally avoid. My arms are quite weedy though!

Raptors Claws are coming to town
I also prefer wide push ups and find wide grip bench presses easier.

Thanks for your comments, Meglet and the Raptor Claws coming to town (nice one, V'rap). So I'm not alone with that preference.

Also thanks to Homeless Kodo for the advice. I'll try to do that next time.
