Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Tapers are horrible DT- totally unfamiliar landscape 😉
Logistics for Chester are a bit of a nightmare too rhb. I remember horrendous city centre traffic last year and this year they've stopped all parking at the racecourse. Last thing you need on a big race day....

There are places around Solihull and Birmingham airport/NEC for example and they are not far off m40. Though not sure that is your route from Manchester as you'd follow the m6 to south Birmingham.

Oo, that's a pain re race course parking. Last year I booked very early and stayed at holiday inn at the race course for about £75.

It doesn't really kick in fully until Friday as the first few days this week are normal and my biggest workouts are usually Friday and Sunday.

@rhb I've done Abo a couple of times. I'm about 45 mins drive away and so I've just driven up there on the morning of the race day.

I had the quickest of searches and it looks like there are loads of available places to stay nearby the night before. There's no need to stay in Abingdon, you can drive over from anywhere local on the morning and park. There are options on the local roads close to the start line that I can point you to if the official parking looks too far away (it's about 1 mile from the start, 10 miles from the finish even though they are in the same place!!).

If I were you I'd stay somewhere within 20 mins drive to take all the stress out of it in the morning. Somewhere like this perhaps (there were cheaper places too):

I recall your hotel DT. Unfortunately at short notice there nothing decent in Chester for less than £175.I'd rather spend up post race at Wwtherspoons 🤭

Easy swim and 5 mile run today.

Oo, you won't have me there this year to buy the expensive pints in the Slug and lettuce so you'll need all your pennies.

Chester went well, arrived early enough to go grab a coffee (Chalk Coffee shop v nice) watch the Marathon folk pass by then get ready to race Metric Marathon.

12 steady ish (see HR graph) then turn on the gas to the finish, was fun. Missed my AG win by about 90s but that's only with the clear hindsight of the results sheet.

16.4 miles in 1h49m30s ish.

Graphs & detailed splits:

1) 1mi - 7:29(7:29/mi) 140/150bpm [1047b/mi] 107cal
2) 1mi - 6:42(6:42/mi) 146/151bpm [979b/mi] 103cal
3) 1mi - 6:48(6:48/mi) 146/151bpm [993b/mi] 102cal
4) 1mi - 7:10(7:10/mi) 146/152bpm [1045b/mi] 105cal
5) 1mi - 6:45(6:45/mi) 148/154bpm [999b/mi] 100cal
6) 1mi - 6:57(6:57/mi) 149/156bpm [1036b/mi] 102cal
7) 1mi - 6:50(6:50/mi) 150/161bpm [1026b/mi] 101cal
8) 1mi - 7:00(7:00/mi) 150/154bpm [1050b/mi] 102cal
9) 1mi - 6:48(6:48/mi) 152/158bpm [1033b/mi] 101cal
10) 1mi - 6:31(6:31/mi) 152/156bpm [990b/mi] 96cal
11) 1mi - 6:34(6:34/mi) 152/156bpm [997b/mi] 96cal
12) 1mi - 6:41(6:41/mi) 151/158bpm [1009b/mi] 100cal
13) 1mi - 6:33(6:33/mi) 158/161bpm [1036b/mi] 102cal
14) 1mi - 6:16(6:16/mi) 159/167bpm [995b/mi] 98cal
15) 1mi - 6:20(6:20/mi) 162/169bpm [1025b/mi] 102cal
16) 1mi - 6:05(6:05/mi) 167/175bpm [1017b/mi] 101cal
17) 0.37mi - 2:05(5:43/mi) 176/186bpm [1008b/mi] 37cal

I think 6m45s pace at Abingdon should be doable and should come if I run sensibly at a similar effort curve as I did at Leeds back in May. Will need to be careful not get carried away in the first 20 miles 😅

Cotton wool time.

Rhb, nice session. Looks well managed, shame to miss out on AG prize.

Bodes very well for 2 weeks time.

48m this week as taper week 1 concludes.

Peak session Wednesday of 14m with 10m at mara pace/160bpm. I always do this around 10 days out. Came out 6.12mm for 159bpm. Went through half way averaging 6.16mm and 153bpm, then gradually picked it up.

Outcome was in keeping with same session pre last 3 or 4 maras though it was pretty windy. They've all come in 2.43-2.47 so I guess those are the parameters. Weather is trending warm for Chicago next week. Currently packing for summer.

Bodes well rhb.

Maybe some over dressed runs to help you acclimatise a little DT19?
