I have a track marathon in a couple of week so might manage a couple more mins which will then put me a bit closer and within smelling distance. Think I will then take it a bit easier in terms of hard stuff but keep up the milage for a while then pick up speed more seriously early next year for a crack at a PB in March/April with a bit more of a taper

Right. Time to start taking this seriously. VLM, 22/4/12.
Current PB is 3.42.23, Snowdonia in 2008. Last marathon was 3.58.58, Barcelona, March 2011.
Anyone know any good six month schedules?

Just wondering what sort of pace people aiming for 3.30 do on their runs What would you do for a steady relaxed run? Most of my easy miles are at around 9mm or a bit slower, wondering if that is fast enough. I do the odd tempo run here and there,, what paces do you do those at?
Can't help with schedules, dont use them

circa 9mm or a bit slower is fine IMO for steady/long run. K does hers around there to target 3:15. Mix in some long tempo (tempo endurance) at PMP, and maybe a few long intervals (mile+) and you have a training program.
But you know my views on most people training too fast and the RW etc schedules already

I ran 3.24 off easy miles of 9-9.30mm H.
I didn't do any speedwork for it though.

3:30 is 8m/m, so I would think that if you're doing the HRM thing and your easy runs are at around 70% WHR, that would probably be between 8:30 and 9m/m pace. Tempo runs should be getting up to near 10k pace - 7m/m or so.

That was kind of my plan flanker once I have my next few marathons out the way
A few tempo runs and a hill or interval session each month. Not going to go overboard as I didn't for my recent PBS just feel I need to get my 10km and HM more in line with my marathon though!!
For years I have plugged my shorter races into the calculator and my Marathon is always too slow. Now my other races are too slow!!!

Don't pay any attention to those calculators.. If I plug in my best 10k time (42:06), it gives me a 4:06 mara. If I plug in my best mara time to date (3:39), I get a 10K time of 36:59. There's got to be a happy medium somewhere!

I'm going to take a break from long distance till the new year, but 2012 has to be the year for sub 3.30. Not a clue where to try for it though. Good to see such support on here.

I could never have got near a 10k time that it said was equivalent to a 3.24 mara........
Who knows. 2013 may happen for me again. Or 2014. I'll know more after a scan next week and watch you lot in the meantime.
