Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

jda - I bet you're the one in your running club that stops anybody getting ahead of themselves when they run a 2:** marathon. I think it was on the sub 2:45 thread that I read "we're not going to be troubling the Kenyans".

Joe - you're an elite in the small microcosm of the sub 3:15 thread.

Well I don't want to diminish the value of pushing ourselves to our limits but it's important to keep a bit of perspective. We are, after all, nothing more than enthusiastic hobbyists and no-one else cares. As for how many places VMLM should allocate to enthusiastic hobbyists vs charity runners and ambitious joggers...that's up to them. For those who don't get a place, other marathons are available.

I had a good run today, you won’t often find me admit to that. I’m putting it down to the fact that I watched the new Kipchoge movie last evening. Recommended to those who might lack a bit of positivity in their running.

Good spot Lou. Happy birthday mr builder.

Bit of a pacing fail for me today. My son agreed at long last to a parkrun and we agreed on 7mm pace and see how it went. Due to early congestion it was a fair way in when I first checked and we were are 6:23mm pace. Eased back for rest of the mile and mile one in 6:48 but then went 7:08 and 7:31.

However he was happy with 22:31 and according to strava his fastest 5k and a target to beat next time.

Nothing wrong with having a slightly suboptimal "sighter" to improve on :-)

Which parkrun was that? I think I'll be in Edinburgh in a couple of weeks and will be hoping to fit one in. Maybe you could pace me to sub-20 :-)

Edinburgh/Cramond jda.

I am not in sub 20 shape. I can’t make next week but might go the week after and see what shape I am in.

That said my parkrunning might take a back seat behind care of my MiL as my wife came back from seeing her mum this morning quite worn down and so I will be there to support for future Saturday mornings.

I tried a HM today and went for it aiming for 1.25. Couldn’t hold it after mile 6 and ended up drifting badly to 1.28 late. I think it indicates I’m going to be about 3.07 or 3.08 come race day, which isn’t bad but I’ve been hoping to get closer to 3.00.

Happy B to PTB.
