Very lonely in the Lincolnshire fens when you totally lose the plot G. If I finish with that as my PB I’ll be furious as it really was a ridiculous state to get myself in when there was clearly nothing wrong with me. As a couple of miles of HMP proved once I’d snapped out of it!
My club is based at that lake Big_G and it’s normally a wind smashed nightmare so you got very lucky that day. Even perfect conditions for 9 soul destroying laps don’t make it easy though, so that was a fine run.
I do love a marathon as part of a trip, not sure it is the way to optimise your time, unless you have far more self discipline than I do. Maybe I should enter Abingdon next year, I’m sure that’s not party central the night before the race

Will_U, yeah, it's a tricky one regarding planning as part of a trip. I try and have 2 or 3 days before the marathon and a day or two afterwards, but it just depends on flights. I know some of the 100 Marathon Club lot sometimes fly out Saturday and back Sunday after the race Most of my holidays are around marathons these days and sometimes (i.e., Leiden, Sofia, Marrakech) they are places I wouldn't necessarily go to, but I see there's a marathon and the flights are cheap and before I know it it's booked.... I loved Marrakech and Sofia - both great cities and not on any "travel list" I may have but they were great places to visit I thought. Sofia was dirt cheap - something like £25 for the event which included an Asics shirt, a medal and a decent (i.e, not a canvas one) sports bag. The course wasn't the best though - two laps, including out and backs to the airport! For Marrakech the marathon was actually quite expensive to enter but it was very cheap getting there and also very cheap once there. It's totally manic there but again I loved it. OH comes wth me when she can, but I did travel to Malta on my own and saw some of the 100MC lot while out there.

WW - If you want a downhill marathon have a look at White Peak marathon.
HappyG - lol, I'm sure Big_G knows Adam (Tango) so no need to flatter me

Yeah, I know Tango. I remember I was a photographer one time at Dartmoor Discovery (my club’s main race) and he was absolutely flying down the hills. Quite unbelievable to see him in full flight. I love hearing the stories of people doing quick times whilst packing in a good number of events though. I find it inspiring.

Laughing at some of the recent posts on marathon disasters..... how many London marathons did we bump into each other in the last mile Bazo?
I never had a DNF - I possibly should have had a couple of DNS but you live and learn!
I have a spectacular range of sub 1.30 first half runs in London with conversion ranging from 3.02 to 3.20 odd.
My worst marathon..... probably my last London where I fell somewhere in the hell that is canary ward cutting my knee and elbow and ran/ walked the rest of the way home. My second worst .... Edinburgh 2011 which came 4 weeks after a 3.02 at London - ran the first half with tail wind in around 1.27 and got overtaken by Stoosh on the second half as I finished in 3.09. We then ended up drinking shots all afternoon, forming a relationship and now have a 14 month old.
Beware what marathon running and alcohol can lead to !

Tango is quite a well known character!
Marrakech is a bonkers city...
...and Malta is so cheap out of season in February that we stayed in the Hilton!! It was cold first thing in the morning the year I did it, but shirts weather for the trip. Perfect.

Technically may first ever marathon was a DNF (1 of maybe 3 or 4, rest are all DNFLI) , second was a DNS.
Then I doubled White Peak sub 4 on the Saturday and Windermere on the Sunday, I love doubles
oh DNFLI = Did not feel like it

Only time I have ran Malta I had a proper strop, ran the first half in around 1:35 / 1:40 and then threw my toys out of the pram and walked ever step from about 15M finishing in about 5:10. And they only had half medals left which really topped off the day.

Brilliant marathon disaster/first date success from

3 or 4 DNF out of 150 isn’t a bad record Joe.
