I garmined Chester at 26.36 and 26.35 in 2014/15. I reckon mine slightly overmeasures as Parkrun is usually 3.14 - albeit I suspect Edinburgh parkrun is slightly long as well

Ive only ever recorded one marathon (of the 40 road ones done) at 26.2 - that was the Newcastle Town Moor marathon which is a lapped event on paths (5 & a bit laps).

The furthest out was the Locke Park 20m which is 20 laps which are quite twisty - at the end I've only ever recorded 19.2m max! They even put info on their website in advance ref course measurement to avoid people querying!

Baz, Edinburgh parkrun is definitely long ( it was originally short and they re-did the course and looks like they over-compensated ) - I reckon about 40-50m. For an accurate 5k down at Cramond do the Scottish 5k Champs in early May - accurate course and high quality field to drag you around.

Crikey that's a lot of worrying and unnecessary mental energy on GPS accuracy and the like.
Pace bands are the answer, and/or manual lapping if your watch can show an "average lap" field.
And no-one should ever get to the end with (say) 3:15:10, and say "oh, if only I'd known I'm sure I could have found those 11 seconds". Put the full beans in at the end regardless of what your watch says. In any marathon you might just dip in to the next minute down if you do. You might find you squeak past the PB of a fellow thread regular by one second (one second! I forgive you, STOOSH).

I thought STOOSH was quicker (by a bigger margin!) *joke*

I somehow managed to find 6:40 pace for the last 0.5m of Rotterdam this year to get under 3:30. I was completely knackered & new it was close so I just ran as fast as I could possibly do for the last 0.5m & never looked at my watch - didn't want to lose even a second to looking!

Gus, Cramond was originally c 80m short. It took me a long long time to better my PB when it was re-measured. While I agree its ,long, I dont think its 40m+ long. That said, there is a stretch when the faster runners meet the mid pack just after the dog leg when you are unable to run the fastest line as the runners coming towards you are on the fastest line.

Amused at the idea that people can debate a 5k parkrun being "definitely" long to the tune of 40m or less...how is this 40m being estimated?

Gus has pretty good insight jda. Our local parkrun is also the venue for a Scottish Athletics championship 5K. It has consistently faster times (for the same athletes, not just better athletes!) and the start finish areas are known and comparable. We also know the change in the course when it was confirmed as short. But he's not saying he's "measure" it as 40m long. I think he's estimating it based on the time difference.
Lovely wee tootle around the business park last night at 6pm - weather is amazing at the moment. Gentle gym class. I'm debating whether to even bother with the 3 x 1m intervals, the last "hard" session in the P&D plan. Just not sure what it gives me, 10 days out. Looking forward to a nice yomp up the hills with head torches tonight with club. And easy running otherwise. 43 mile week in taper. Might cut that back a bit. Really don't see point in overdoing it at this stage.
Larks, Nelly, Bazo, gluco, is it too soon to talk about start line meet ups at Chester? I'm down the night before with my missus. Don't know if we're meeting anyone for dinner on Sat night, but happy to hear of any plans and could meet for either food or drinks. Failing that, where is good to meet in the start area. I'll probably wear my Fetch shirt. Says HAPPYG and GO GRRR! on it. But might be in club vest, as a couple of club mates down too. If so it's red with diagonal green stripe (pictures of muddy XC in my photos from previous years would assist.) What attire and do you have pics in your galleries? G
