Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I went under 20 mins a couple of times at the beginning of the year. Can't get close to 20:xx now, after several marathons and some big bike rides.

Then a lad at my running club who's pb was 20:21 ran 19:06 last night. Amazing achievement, pleased for him.

Great stuff Arjin. Once I've ran the Bournemouth marathon I'm going to focus on 5 & 10k times.

Did it - Sub 20 tonight (second time ever) and a PB of 19:36! well pleased.

Can recommend the summer 5K series at Yeovilton as a very flat and fast course. that was the last of the season though so one to plan for 2015 if you're in the area.

Beautiful Rog. I've got my eye on the Poole Runners 5k which is run on the promenade. A fast flat course as long as it's not too windy.

Cheers Iamp. That 5K is meant to be good, not done it myself yet. like you say though, wind could be a factor.

Arjin - surprised that you're blaming marathons and big bike rides, they're exactly the kind of thing that got me into sub 20 shape! I'm beginning to think that running at race pace or near race pace once a week is the kind of thing that helps tune speed. I'm interested in the "brain's role" in all of this, as a governor that says "you will not run faster than this pace, as its dangerous" and then next time you run at that pace "it says actually I got that wrong, it was painful, but maybe you can run a bit faster"

Chrisull - I'd not been running much fast stuff for some time, but have raced a couple of times lately, and getting quicker each time, so I know it's coming back. Ran an average of 7:19 a minute over a hilly off road 4.5 mile Test Way relay leg on Sat.

I've also put on over a stone in weight since the beginning of the year, although a lot of it is in my quads and glutes from all the cycling.

I know what needs doing to get faster than I was before - more core strength, and clever training! The weight will sort itself out.

20:12 last night in a strong wind and 5 days after a 100% PB effort in last Sunday's Bournemouth Marathon.

A complete surprise of 20:04 today at Preston Park parkrun means I'm back in the hunt for this again! Was aiming for 20:30, although ran 3k in sub 20 pace (didn't use watch but they called out time). Am doing Winchester next week so may have another bash there!
