Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Indeed - I have a SIPP with most of my previous employers' pensions in it plus another couple of individual schemes - I should be lossless in perpetuity. At least that's the theory.

Just had my (company) pension increase notification - looks like about 5%

I got some increase this month (I get paid on 25th) and get the rest next month, TR. Due to the financial year being from 6th April, it takes a couple of paydays for the full increase to come into effect for me.

To those with DB company pensions: does having a DB annuity make you more or less likely to take the 25% tax free amount?

There has been a HUGE turnover of staff at my GP surgery post Covid. All non drs are new and we have 3 GPs left out of 6, one also new. The practice has massive issues!
I was told, repeatedly, that I could not see a dr when I called in with ascites stopping me from eating and drinking. "Take a couple of paracetamol and gaviscon"
I ended up in a&e and hospital for a week and nearly died. Had I not been so insistent and "annoying" myself...
Yes, I overheard this person calling me that in the background...

My main pension is DB, I took the 25% figuring the tax saving was worth it. However my pension is index linked and I got a 10% rise this year and haven’t earned 10% on the investments from that 25% so not sure about the absolute calculation now.

However, I did want some for spending money and like to have a decent accessible savings pot in case the offspring need it so overall the 25% worked out better for me

Ta, RH. I guess I'm wondering whether better annual increases over the long term are a better bet than just taking the lump sum.

I had to take the 25% lump sum from the 1995 pension scheme, which was almost all of what I had, and chose to take a lump sum from the 2015 scheme as well. It may not turn out to be an optimal decision, especially if I live into my nineties, but I wanted to have the money accessible in case we decide to relocate to somewhere more expensive than where we currently live.
