Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The Environmental Audit Cttee is calling for views on revising the traditional measure of UK economic prosperity to take greater account of natural capital and environmental sustainability. committees.parliament.uk

Am wondering why they are asking. As there is the UN's sustainable development goals (https://sdgs.un.org/goals), or Kate Raworth's doughnut economy (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rhcrbcg8HBw
) and many more: ethical.net

Probably a token consultation to avoid any change. Pure GDP will always lead to exploitation of resources for profit. People and planet.

Smart Meter question...

When do my bills start to reflect my actual usage?

Had to prod Octopus as they hadn't billed me for electricity in 6 months, there was some mention on FB groups about an issue with certain smart meters, they were still tracking half hourly usage but not sending it through

OK, I'll be patient, only had the thing since October.

My monthly DD was/is £113 but the meter is suggesting an average more like £80.

That is quite a difference, and makes me wonder just how much I've been over charged in the last 10 years.

Interesting Cackle! I have been wondering the same .. new supplier: direct debit has gone down by £14/month after having bern with them for 6 months or so. No smart meter but they ask for regular readings from me. Old providers would send someone round once a year, then estimated. I always thought I was paying too much...

Can’t you take your own readings and calculate it?

A cynic might feel that smart meters are smart enough to only favour the energy retailer when adjusting monthly payments!

Maybe it needs a few months or seasons to establish a normal pattern though?

Not sure who your question is too fetch.

Smart meters are required, along with smart distribution networks, in order to increase efficiency of energy provision and consumption in the future.

The networks are essentially dumb, today. Hard to believe, in our high tech world, but literally coal is burned, nuclear plants run, and the power is generated, what isn't used at the far end is wasted. We need to be able to generate, store and distribute in a pattern that matches consumption better and we need to be able to set consumer devices to use power when it is available in excess. All this requires data at home, community and regional level.

I can certainly provide manual readings if I want to, even with smart metering, and check billing. No one is ripping anyone off! :-) G

Hi
I've seen environment (whether emissions, power, climate change, access to countryside, whatever you think of as "environment") discussed in various threads: Politics (obviously), the Electric Car thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/electric-car-anyone-61481/ , run free's excellent "Competitive Running and Keeping The Environment Clean" fetcheveryone.com/forum/running-competitively-keeping-our-environment-clean-60907/ my own Greta Thunberg thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/greta-thunberg---jfk-for-the-climate-generation-61044/ etc. but I haven't seen a general one.

So here it is. For those interested in the science, the politics, the action for (and I'll state that for me, this is mostly pro-environment, anti-emissions, anti-pollution etc.) and the hope for the future of our planet.
