Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Fields, is that a quote for something to install on your house? Or is it already on a house that you are looking to buy (or rent)?

The latter. I’m looking at houses to buy, and it was the first time I’d encountered a listing with panels. No idea when they were installed but the house was built before panels were commonplace (approx 2005-2010 was the heyday wasn’t it IIRC) so it could have been an original installation in that timeframe.

The listing refers to “owned outright” so I assume they come with the title of the property.

It’s all academic really as I’m not yet ready to buy and this house is too toppy for my budget but very useful to learn that subject to the guarantees etc it’s one of the better deals out there.

Merry Christmas and Happy NewG(rrr)
I'd say having 3kW of solar panels is an asset of the order of magnitude of £3000. It will save or possibly make you a total of £200- £600 per year (made up numbers. Not nothing, not £000s.

Owned outright is to differentiate from the ones that were "rented" or part owned with the installer to reduce their cost to the customer.

Very useful information thank you all.

If I see a similar setup on a future property I’ll be much better informed.

If it was before 2009, think it uses the FIT rate of about 45p/KW. If it is a sunny aspect, then would earn about 1000/year

This is a link to a piece I wrote for The Herald the went into the paper in late October, just before COP. It came from a visit to a number of Scottish private enterprises and their projects that are involved in Energy Transition or sustainability and speaking with their owners or CEOs. heraldscotland.com

I don't think free enterprise bashing in this is either helpful, or correct. It's the trade and industry of private owners which are creating the positive change and innovation under the framework of regulations put in by the state to initiate that change that bring about solutions.

However I came out of the politics thread to get away from dogma and I'd prefer on this thread to read about the status and process of change and the solutions out there rather than to listen in on a capitalism bashing echo chamber.

About This Thread

Hi
I've seen environment (whether emissions, power, climate change, access to countryside, whatever you think of as "environment") discussed in various threads: Politics (obviously), the Electric Car thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/electric-car-anyone-61481/ , run free's excellent "Competitive Running and Keeping The Environment Clean" fetcheveryone.com/forum/running-competitively-keeping-our-environment-clean-60907/ my own Greta Thunberg thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/greta-thunberg---jfk-for-the-climate-generation-61044/ etc. but I haven't seen a general one.

So here it is. For those interested in the science, the politics, the action for (and I'll state that for me, this is mostly pro-environment, anti-emissions, anti-pollution etc.) and the hope for the future of our planet.
