Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

That "one fewer child" bar goes all the way up to 58 tonnes (!)

That's interesting jacdaw - same source, different infographic. With different emphasis.

Not the flying in the first one says:" take fewer flights"

The second says "per transatlantic flight"

The first says " use the car less"

The second says "no car use"

Different emphasis makes a big difference to the interpretation.

I'm not sure my children will agree to that, jacdaw.

Basically, less people would help. Volunteers, please step forward? Can't see that going down well.

The first says " use the car less"

It doesn't.

The second says "per transatlantic flight"

So does the first.

The images are basically the same.

Also, one fewer child is a bit tricky in terms of planning ahead. Fewer than you were going to have, fewer than your parents had, fewer than the people next door?

I have done ALL those things, including not having children... I have "collected" clients that are maximum 5 miles drive away and won't taken on any new clients outside that radius. I simply cannot do any more... The no children cost me my marriage by the way... Paired with my reluctance to consume more than what is essential...

Ptb - the emphasis *does* say that. The small text that it's per transatlantic flight is off to the right

The emphasis via wrong

Also looking at the original data, the car use us a an average of Canadian, us, gbr (not UK) and Australian car use

If you look at figure 1 in the paper, *average* GB car use *per year* is approximately the same as one transatlantic flight.

And the car use included all the embodied co2 in the manufacturing process. The flying calculation doesn't.

But my point is that those infographics are misleading to some extent. One transatlantic flight corresponds to a while year of car use.

So if people fly several times a year, thats far worse by an order of magnitude

Note also the insulation calculation is purely for "wall insulation" and not fully insulating a home.

Hi
I've seen environment (whether emissions, power, climate change, access to countryside, whatever you think of as "environment") discussed in various threads: Politics (obviously), the Electric Car thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/electric-car-anyone-61481/ , run free's excellent "Competitive Running and Keeping The Environment Clean" fetcheveryone.com/forum/running-competitively-keeping-our-environment-clean-60907/ my own Greta Thunberg thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/greta-thunberg---jfk-for-the-climate-generation-61044/ etc. but I haven't seen a general one.

So here it is. For those interested in the science, the politics, the action for (and I'll state that for me, this is mostly pro-environment, anti-emissions, anti-pollution etc.) and the hope for the future of our planet.
