Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I just had my last PhD review. Bit daunted by the huge amount left to do but as long as I get cracking and up the work rate I’ll be ok. Starting with 4 hours working at tennis this morning

EB, it sounds like they're taking it seriously and actually going to do something, so that's positive.

I always prefer to go first when there are presentations to do, at least you get it over with.

(((Carp))) (((LindsD))) I'm not even studying anymore and resent having to see family in the university closure week, it sounds awful, but I just want to properly relax.

Fleecy, you WILL get it done. It doesn't have to be perfect (I left out half the introduction in one of my examiner's copies and still passed).

Well had myself quite worked up about today but got through it. As planned I went first on my formative presentation. Only needed to do 5 minutes. I managed 3 minutes. A few minutes of questions went back to my seat and promptly had a small seizure. The tutor continued talking to me throughout it despite the fact that the person sat beside was 'looking after me'

I got it done that's the main thing. Feedback from students was good I appeared confident and seemed to know what I was talking about. Tutor comments..... I could trying comparing my statistics to a totally different subject to give context...... I disagreed so spoke to the tutor who took the other group (we had been split into two) The other tutor said that she thinks a better way would be to compare local statistics of Peterborough to Cambridge as they have different 'affluence' backgrounds or perhaps somewhere like Glasgow. That seems to be an awful lot more sensible approach.

I voiced concerns over the fact that it will be two weeks before we get academic feedback as that will leave me with just a few weeks to correct everything if I'm on the track before the actual 'exam'

I had to ask several questions about the module getting more and more direct until I had to literally pin him down to get an answer about a module leader. Essentially he was saying yes I hope so to everything until I asked if they were interviewing.... Yes. Had they finished..... Yes...... Have they appointed someone...... I don't think so.......OK so we don't have a module leader yet........ I hope so.... Arghhhhh. I appreciate he's in a difficult position but so are we and we just need straight answers. He did promise me that he'd get to me as soon as he could with feedback. Also to give him the respect he's due he ran our first module and everything was spot on. We had timetables and we always knew what was happening despite his teaching style being difficult for most of us to engage with.

I think word has got back to the uni about our meeting as emails were getting answered at 5am today!
So in a nutshell managed to get some feedback but not certain I'm on the right track. However I'm really stressed still and now worrying about having a seizure during main exam which is being videoed for mediation.

Gosh EB, that sounds tough. Would you get extra time or the option to redo it if you did have a seizure? I think it would be reasonable to ask.

Fingers crossed they'll get a new module lead in place soon.

Tbh I've not broached the subject G_G. I guess it's the embarrassment of what happened. I just keep going and hopefully get through it 🤞

How are you getting on carp?
