I know, she was 19 when he first got her, and it's been 6 and a half painful years

Daughter has just got the email to say that the restaurant/bar/club company she works for part-time is closing for the duration. Mainly I'm relieved that it will cut her risk factor down, she's obviously upset as it changes her plans to stay living away from home once her degree is finished. At the moment it's finishing writing the dissertation and that's it over (I think). So, she has a contract on her flat that runs until July - and I've said I'll pay the rent until then, she's looking to see what work there is - supermarkets etc for now but she's worried that they'll pull the plug on student loans- the living bit. It's not much, but she could live on it for a couple of months or so.
Anyone think this is likely? Are all uni students expected to just go home now it's distance learning?

I doubt they'll pull student loans, students still need to survive and not all will have the option of moving in with family/parents. There certainly hasn't been any suggestion of that, and a message a few days ago told us that the Learning Support Fund (linked to SFE) was remaining open for applications.

My youngest is in a similar situation, Rosehip I'd love to have her home, but she has an independent life now and I'll pay her living costs for a while to avoid her having to make a retrograde step. Fellmouse is on a year's secondment to the council and is on a salary till the start of the next academic year, thank goodness. And her other job just happens to be as a pharmacy technician.

Ive posted elsewhere. My daughters graduation just cancelled and she is distraught after 4 years. She is home but we have a flat in Glasgow with all her stuff and 3 months of rent which we always pay anyway. I dont think student loans can be stopped. 2 of the 6 girls are remaining in the flat, one has an elderly father and the other is from NI and doesnt plan to go back after Uni
The good news is she will get a degree as her dissertation was in at Christmas and plenty course marks, however when this all settles down the job options will be limited
This is tough

I'm thinking, Gen Z shuffle. If someone in Liverpool will give my Tink a place to stay (22, very tidy, likes the telly on) I could have Rosehip's lass ...

Hugs and best wishes for all the 20 somethings. Two of my sons work part time at a local garden centre cafe and have been told they have no more shifts because the business is prioritising people who don't live with their parents. Eldest actually has a student flat but he has moved back home since his uni is online only at the moment and he will lose £700. He's been paying rent out of his student loan. He had reached the final stage for an electrical engineering internship with Network Rail but has not heard anything for a while so is assuming that's off. He is taking it ok, I guess cos he's 3rd year it's not such a crucial year but he loves travelling so feels sad about being kept in as he had many plans.
I hope this doesn't last too long and the job market returns to normal soon. Thinking of you all.

Daughter will get her degree - the dissertation is now online submission instead of printed and bound and she's passed well everything else so far - no news on graduation (July) but we're assuming that will go
I'd love her home, but she doesn't want to come and I respect that - I wouldn't either. Until Christmas she paid her rent from the loan and lived off what she earned - I said I'd pay her rent so she could cut down her working hours to get the last few months of hard research done, but she was supposed to be going full time working after Easter until she found a job in her field

That's so sad that the graduation ceremonies have been cancelled, couldn't they just be postponed, or even added to next year's graduation

Thats what I thought at first, it was just being delayed, but that doesnt appear the case. I do hope though that they do things properly
For my son (23) life goes on as normal. His work has now become less stressful as there is little business and its his weekend off and had already booked a weekend away with his girlfriend using a gift we bought for Christmas. Hotel said yesterday they remain open and so he is going
