Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Eldest is another worry, he's in two high-risk categories - but still goes into hospitals every day to maintain and fix equipment (including ventilators etc)...

Our graduation ceremonies are postponed.

And I can't see them touching student loans. There has been no suggestion that students have to go home and our halls remain open.

(With restrictions, obviously)

If students are worried they should ask lots of questions of their university. Ours are, and it's our job to answer them (and we do gladly, unless the information is already available and has been well signposted. Then I get grumpy).

Eldest is in Brum doing a Masters. The Uni has closed today but he has his dissertation to work on. He reckons he'll stay put where he is for now in Uni residence.

They are supposed to be doing a group project - cut off 31st march - but now sure how that's going to work now.

There will be an alternative, McG. We are all hard at work sorting it out (assuming all universities are broadly the same)

He's having a hard time with this bit: the particular subgroup of teaching staff were reluctant to even grant an extension - long after all other groups had been granted one. The one eldest is in seem completely head-in-the-sand about it all...

So after three months as empty nesters, we're back to a full complement of kids at home. Both sons work at an outdoor activities centre, which has now closed, so Son 1 (24 and a lead instructor) is stood down on 80% pay (the government scheme), while Son 2 (22 and a trainee) is stood down - his £200 per month allowance for his traineeship will continue.

Overall we're lucky, but it is a reversal of their independence.

Youngest stayed on in Falmouth after uni closed to stay with his girlfriend. I can’t work out if he’s allowed to travel home or not now

Daughter has until 8th April to finish her dissertation, goodness knows when I'll see her again :( she daren't come home to finish it in case she leaves a vital piece of paper/data behind and anyway, travel home because mum is getting a bit stressed about her is hardly essential travel.

I don't know HB. Think Harry is in the same situation.
