Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Shades
The amount of SPF in products such as moisturisers, foundation etc is minimal. It's not enough to offer anywhere near the same protection as a dedicated SPF product.

I'm very fair skinned and always use SPF cream when I run, and either wear a baseball cap or visor to shade my face. Usually SPF50.

As I never deliberately go out in the sun I take a Vitamin D supplement, have done for about 40 years.

I pretty much always wear a hat if there's any sunshine around, I feel very unwell very quickly if I don't, so I don't usually worry too much about sun protection on my face - I nearly bought some 'sunbum' spf30 'face stick' this morning though, thinking of when I'm playing rugby and a hat isn't a viable option (I guess a scrum cap might protect against sunstroke still, but the lack of brim makes it less effective for face protection). I think I'll look around for some other brands or stockists, as it was quite expensive and it turned out I couldn't use the gift voucher type thing for it that I was planning to, so I put it back.

For the rest of the body I mostly go with a generic (Kruidvat own brand, atm, iirc) spf50, where possible a water resistant one, and try to remember to reapply throughout the day or after I have a shower (if I've got very sweaty. If I get very sweaty and can't shower I tell myself the layer of salt I'm then covered in must have some protective quality... I'm probably wrong).

It's been a while since I've been out doing a multi hour training session where I can't reapply or get clean (and then reapply), though, and I guess that would need a different approach.

I do have some old ones Rae but they aren't very good as they slip down my nose!

I will use them but only on long runs
If on bike I use my contacts and bike glasses the whole time

Since the great weather we had in lockdown 1 I now pretty much use factor 50 daily from March on.
Head got red very quickly in L1 just walking around for a couple of hours without applying cream and Mrs DB gave me a talking to.
Rituals factor 50 applied daily as part of morning process, post shower/shave etc.

I know a lot of the Boots moisturisers (and foundations) have an SPF factor (and the quantities of the ingredients that contribute to it are checked throughout the shelf life of batches of the product)....

I just need to remember to put my moisturiser on as it won't do much good in the pot in the bathroom!

About This Thread

If I am running/cycling long and know I will be out for hours I always use P20 but it occurred to me that I'm getting older and it's getting hotter for longer which made me think.

If it's only a 30-45 mins run I wouldn't normally bother and TBH I don't think I bother when I go for a walk or garden.

When I run commute I "forget"

So when should you use it and what factor?

I run into work at 6 (70ish mins) then return at 4:50 do I need it both ways or just on th...
