Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

"Haslemere's new Banking Hub is up and running from today. It's the first in the country to also have an ATM - something the Town Council has fought hard to ensure. Residents have waited a long time for this facility and it's now time to use it or lose it!
Banking Hubs are dedicated places where communities can access everyday personal and business banking services, such as withdrawing and depositing cash easily, or paying in cheques, over the counter.
They’re also somewhere to speak in person with a local community representative from your own bank. They’ll be on site for a specific day each week to help with more complicated transactions, such as mortgages, loans and pensions.

Please pop in and see how the lovely staff at the hub can help you."

There's one them where I stay, in the Co-op. It's staffed rotatingly by people from different banks. Tbh it's a very poor substitute: I'm not actually sure that it's still functioning. The only time I tried to use it, to pay in a cheque - they couldn't take cheques.

For the vast majority of my life, the town had four banks. They all went, pretty close together.

Hummus recipe:

Proper hummus is served with a drizzle of olive oil, rather than oil being a significant ingredient in its own right. This is what should go in it:

• 1½ cups cooked chickpeas or 1 (15-ounce) canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed*
• 3 tablespoons tahini
• 3 tablespoons lemon juice
• 1 garlic clove, mashed
• ¼ teaspoon salt, or more to taste
• Approximately 2-4 tablespoons room-temperature water or aquafaba, or more if needed
• Optional garnishes: extra virgin olive oil, sumac or paprika, finely chopped parsley or other herbs, whole chickpeas

This particular recipe from thymeandtoast.com but it’s typical of the Middle Eastern way of making it.
