Trouble is there is somewhere for them to go. They'll go for "IT's the remainers' fault for sabotaging things" and "The EU are being vindictive and not playing the game" and from there it's a short step to "Anyone opposing Brexit/The State is the enemy" and from there we're in all sorts of trouble. 1930s Germany has some serious lessons for us all and no-one is reading them. I'm genuinely scared. |

That Johnson is a liar and a fraud is one thing, but like all unscrupulous men he is compelled to have equally unprincipled people around him. He doesn't want principled people who put country before party and before self: he wants people who will lie and evade in order to prop him up and explain away his latest bout of incompetence. And so they all plunge further and further towards the bottom of the barrel: heartless liars and bullshitters rise to the top and the people of honour are crushed or cast out.

Given the level of delusion prevalent (no apologies for that; if people think that the referendum and everything pertaining to it, was fair and legal, then they really are deluded. Note, this is not related to the arguments for Brexit and the stupidity, or lack thereof, involved in that particular debate), this may still not have any effect. However, it would be gratifying to see this man and his ilk at least receive some degree of censure for destabilising the country. twitter.com |

So perhaps protests first then ....Revolution? Yesterday I met a Brexiteer who thinks the govt is doing a great job and another person who voted for Brexit, voted for Conservative and now thinks they are s*** Didn't have time to talk to the latter. But was amazed as prior to Covid she thought BJ was the man for the job. |

Should say difference between the two is one is like Victor Meldrew 70-80; the other is a 40-50 lady.

Part of me wonders if that by going after the armed forces Cummings might have sowed the seeds of his own destruction. The Tories flag waving, breast beating jingoism, so carefully installed as a public fetish to the extent that people wear poppies for the whole year these days, might sit uncomfortably with the voting public if they see personnel being cut in favour of spotty teenagers operating drones. |

I had several customers at Waits who wear poppies all year. It's definitely a thing.

I go with a white poppy, party to sidestep all the jingoistic bullshit but it probably helps that the local Quakers are a good bunch.

Just to be clear. I'm not against the wearing of poppies as an act of remembrance. I do so myself. I also (sometimes) wear my medals. That stuff had its season and it's place though. |
