Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

People forget Scotland is not only further north than England but also mostly further west. The 9.30 start was introduced partly because of lack of daylight in winter (and also partly because the cafe in Pollok Park didn’t open till 10!) and that was in GLASGOW which is pretty far south geographically speaking even if it’s ‘central’ from a demographic point of view.

Craigellachie - thanks for the insight. Interesting about the cafe.

My local parkrun (Gunnersbury) is sadly without a cafe. The park had a run down hut which was functional and affordable which was rebuilt into a bit more of a luxurious cafe, that got burnt down during covid. Since then no cafe.

Another local one, Osterley, does have a cafe so I was very keen to go there but thankfully someone Told me the cafe doesn't open until 11, so no point me commuting if I want the cafe experience. I don't understand why they don't open earlier - easy money. They could even do a reduced menu service for ease of speed.

That cafe is experience is parkrun for me. It's been there from my first one and at most of the ones I have visited.

Our cafe is outdoors and seasonal but now opens for parkrun even in winter. They’ve supported us massively- contributing to startup funding and letting us use their storage so we don’t have to transport kit. How much trade they get is weather dependent though. I make a point of always buying something even if I take it away with me but if it’s cold or wet a lot of folk head to the retail park instead unfortunately. I hope the average over an extended period is worth their while and covers staff wages.

Fizz :-)
We went to Monsal Trail on Saturday. Lovely cafe. Inside, full menu, waitress service. Outside, for an hour on a Saturday only, minimal menu, fixed price, whack it all out as fast as possible. Brilliant :-)

As expected I was up early and ran 9 by the time my local parkrun was due to start.

Confirming I'd have done a lot less parkrunning if I lived in Scotland. :-)

Hot run at Exmouth. Light wind on the back straight, no wind on the way out and home.
Started way back today, there seems to be a pattern of people drifting towards the start before the RD finishes the briefing, so I probably lost about 30 seconds.
In the circumstances and given that I haven't run much this week I was more than happy with the time.
250th next week!

Possibly. But your body clock’s relationship to the actual clock would be different.
