Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Let's talk about inaugural parkruns after they've happened.

Yeah, Sir Fetch can obviously update it, but otherwise it's defaulted to the the thread starter. It can be hard work to sort the fact from the fiction, but nothing to get stressed about until either there is a local call for volunteers in which case if anyone on here can help then so the better, or if the official page is live. I'm normally quite quick on the official ones as they get put into various Facebook groups.

Long time lurker, first time commenter here. Enjoy the thread and the chat of where and how future events may appear.

Few of the recent-ish posts found interesting. I'm one of those runners trying to get all the Scottish events. Primarily because a friend (more recent to parkrun than me) suggested it and turned out I was half way there already. It's been great fun travelling the country and seeing parts of it I otherwise wouldn't have. And of course taking in each event and the unique challenge it offers.

Personally I'm not a serial inaugural attender. Just prefer to go when an event is a little more established, and doing its thing. Fair play to anyone that seeks them out, just don't really see the attraction of adding to the mix on a start up?

An event this week requested that if visitors could possibly leave it a week or two to appear, and this was quite quickly removed. parkrun is obviously for everyone but guess must be catch 22 being a race director and trying safe guard a launch event by ensuring it's not too full on? There was a reaction to even having thought/suggested this though? Guess I've just always thought it's polite and right to respect an event and their respective wishes/team/volunteers that have spent many months, possibly years getting to that stage.

Plean had 300 at their launch event, which is amazing. It's definitely not a park that is readily set up to have that many attending – especially if the majority travel by car. Thankfully though imagine that's likely to plateau for a while now.

If/when Bressay launches really looking forward to the adventure that will entail. Definitely waiting till its regular and there's better weather (HA, in Scotland – I wish). Especially seeing that there are a few ferry crossings involved.

The serial touristing/volunteering shout is fair. Entirely down to the individual but know I've managed the above whilst maintaining a one in ten. That's not a 'go me', more just feels like least I can do in the grand scale of all things parkrun.

Cheers for the laughs.

Welcome to the forums, Gallus. Troon had 196 today for their inaugural today. I did see a post requesting people not attend this week - but it was from an RD of a neighbouring parkrun, directed primarily to their regulars. Troon seemed publically to be welcoming anyone to attend.

Plean had 80 today which I think may be the high end of normal, in winter at least (second event but week three, cancelled due to black ice in several places last week). The point re parking is interesting as there are maybe only 2000 people within walking distance, another 5000 in (enthusiastic) jogging range, but I'd guestimate towards 250 000 within 20 minutes drive. This makes it a bit unusual in Scottish terms (though St Andrew's and Eglinton are similar). Bressay will though be way, way out on its own on any measure like that.

About This Thread

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.

Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
