Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Walking with "ame" this year. Walked it last year and "hobbling" by end, partially due to similar hot weather and not drinking enough. Will look out for you Rosehip - would be nice to say hello to another Fetchie.

The LDWA stage an annual 100-mile event. This year was the Elephant, Bear and Bull (EBB) in the Midlands. I have a vague idea that the 2027 event, which I hear informally will be on the Jurassic Coast, might be the one for me.

You have to have done a qualifying event. Here is the list of qualifiers for the 2024 Speyside 100.

2023
18th - 19th February : Roundhay 50
1st - 2nd April : Shropshire Way 80k
15th – 16th April : The Woldsman 2023 (50-mile walk)
29th - 30th April : 59th The Fellsman (61 miles)
29th April - 1st May : EBB LDWA Hundred Marshals
27th - 29th May - EBB LDWA Hundred
15th – 16th July : AFoot in Two Dales Challenge (50-mile walk)
12th – 13th August : Shotley Peninsula 50 (51.5-mile walk)
2nd - 3rd September : The Bullock Smithy Hike (56 miles)
23rd – 24th September : Sussex Stride 2023 (52-mile walk)
7th – 8th October : The Laich o’Moray 50 Mile Challenge
7th October : The 40th Round Rotherham (50 miles)
21st - 22nd October : Cornwall & Devon 2024 Hundred Qualifier (Potter round the Otter)

I've always fancied the Bullock Smithy, almost entirely as a result of hearing Tony Audenshaw talking about it on Marathon Talk many years ago. Are any of the others notable for any reason?

Ditto the Bullock Smithy for the same reason :)

Also wondering about a qualifying 50, since annoyingly the Lakeland 50 meets the usual criteria but doesn’t count

Have any folks here done any LDWA events recently? Or got any coming up? I'm eyeing up the qualifiers for the 2024 100 event to see if any are feasible. The next three* being south (relatively) probably suit me so I might target one of them.

* Suffolk, Kent, Cornwall & Devon

We have the Durham Dales Challenge this weekend, approx 30 miles.

Then I'm doing Afoot in 2 Dales so that I can qualify for the Flower of Suffolk 100.

I did fancy the Bullock Smithy Hike, but I am away that weekend. I also have my eye on the Woldsman for next year. Good training for the 100 miler ;)

I'm hoping for triangular sandwiches!

I also have my eye on the Cornwall & Devon 100 in a couple of years time, not so fussed about Kent but I might change my mind! (I am Yorkshire based, so it's a blooming long way and ends up having to involve the OH for a weekend away etc)

- tempted by that one, but am not sure I've got 100 miles in me now so ?
