between 8:45 and 9 per mile for me and see how long that take me to get under 75%

No worries, obviously there's other stuff to consider like whether the new pace feels comfortable, and there's no need to get wedded to a pace, if you need an easier day run slower.

It's felt hard running at 10:45 pace, only because it was so unnatural!

I have read lots more on that thread. Useful.

Will get out at 8:45-9 pace next time.

I'm certain 8:45 will feel easy as to be honest, when I run at 7:30 it never feels very taxing.

Will get out for an hour tomorrow at that pace and see what the HR is!

Will keep at that pace until I get to 50 miles a week and it drops below 75%

Cheers Boab, certainly food for thought.

Daz in terms of swimming HR would you have a different max HR and could you measure it with a HR strap or the manual way.

I could certainly try and check it the manual way but don't have a swim HRM. (I only took it up this year due to injury!)

Daz - I pretty much agree (and who am I not to anyway!) with the Hadd post SPR linked to. The only bit I'm not happy with is that he writes using 5k PB pace (plus 3min), which could be ill-advised for someone if they are very far from PB form.

He does list 6 categories where he almost expects to have problems with people starting out on this training. I remember seeing that and since I didn't fit in to any of those 6, then I didn't give myself an out, and just stuck at it.
It did take a few months to get out of the 10m/m zone, but then I wasn't up to 50mpw (more like 35), and I've not got any natural ability at this sport to start me off (other than a tendency not to be overweight).



I always did have a bit of a hard time relating to the parts of the method (or posts on threads about it) where he talked about paces like 8:30m/m being really slow. I've never found 8:30 really slow - just different levels of hard/easy according the fitness I have at that time. I'm sure there *are* people who genuinely find 8:30 slow, but unless they have at least a 75min HM to their name (or equivalent), I don't believe them.

Hunts - surely you should be using 75% of maxHR as the ceiling, not 70% anyway. (some folk start with a ceiling HR of 70% Working HR, which is a different calculation taking resting HR into account - don't get them mixed up!)

Cheers as ever Ptb - So I'm not PB form (5:45) but probably not far from 6:00. So will aim to run between 8:45 and 9s for as long as it takes me to to get to below 75%.

I'm interested to see what it comes out at. Will aim for 6 miles tonight at around 8:45 and see what the average HR is.
