Yeah, I've just seen Cumbria Police confirm that news. It was what I was expecting after ff's earlier post unfortunately.

NE was wondering about where inov8 were going with their fell shoes. Well, I got some sportsshoes vouchers for Christmas, and being weak I bought a pair of the new MudTalons. The first pair went back as I got some 9.5 (my usual inov8 size) precision fit, and they were both too short and too tight. Swapped them for a 10 Wide. As I've always gone for the wide x-talons this is not surprise. Wore them out of the box for our local Stanbury Splash (BM) this morning, and have several things to say about them. Firstly, they are like slippers! More comfortable than the old x-talons, and I loved the old ones. And the best grip in the mud I've ever had. Also, unlike the 260s, their shape and stud placement seemed to make them really stable with little lateral roll. Like all inov8s, they were OK on greasy rock. Better than mudclaws, but probably no better than the old x-talons. But ... they were almost too grippy, or really too wide. The grip on the ground was so good that my foot was moving too much in the forefoot (despite the heel & mid foot having a good hold), especially on the steep down or when trying to place precisely on a a small target, which did not lead to confident or fast progress on the more technical ground. I think this pair will be a great shoe for muddy long runs and winter ultras. I'll have a play with the lacing, but I don't think these ones are my shoe for hard running on technical ground. I'll see if I can squeeze my foot into a size 10 precision fit. If so, I think they'll be an amazing fell shoe. |

I'm tempted to try a pair, but I was waiting to see if they brought out a less mud specific alternative next / soon. If I do weaken and buy some, I think I'll try them on in a shop, though, rather than mail order. I've seen a couple of comments from people with wide feet who've gone for the narrow version.

Interesting. Being a tight-fisted git I can't see me buying a pair anytime soon, but I would love to try the fit, no doubt I'll succumb eventually!

Isn't there a innov8 shop in Bakewell now? I get my shoes at the local place in Matlock as I like a mix of stuff and we get a club discount. |

If I'd not had vouchers and a 15% discount code I'd not have bothered until the current lot were on their last studs.
