We dropped down from an 8m motorhome with island bed to a 6m camper van without much difficulty. We take less with us. I couldn’t manage if we couldn’t stand up in it and I (personal preference) don’t see the point of a van if there’s no toilet in it 😆

I suppose, the campervan image (or the one I have in my head!) is grufty surfer dude kipping over night at the beach so he can catch the first waves of the day. He aint bothered about anything other than somewhere to sleep. Self contained motorhoming is a different game. In my mind I'm a grufty dirt-bag runner chick, wanting to be able to kip at the start/end point of my adventure. When I've done that, it's been great! Trouble is I have an OH and dog in tow. ![]() ![]() Last night, we just went to a local spot. OH was amazed at the number of people who just drove up to watch the sunset, just sit in their car etc. I pointed out, this is what people do. Half 8 at night is not late! Happened the other week, a young lad in a racer boy car turned up, snapped a few shots of the sunset, snapped his mate watching the sunset; then 5 mins later drove off again. |

I was amused to see how many youngsters (teens and twenties) park up at Cleethorpes sea front, open their car boots and sit in there, wrapped in blankets, eating pizza whilst they watch the sea and/or sunset. Better than hanging around supermarket car parks doing donuts.

Yes, I think it's great! Part of the slow-revolution I think.

T6.1 which is the short wheel base version. We’ve done a week on Skye in it, mix of wild camping and a couple of sites. But mainly just long weekends or overnights. We have a compost loo but only an outdoor shower hose. So for real longer term touring we would probably go for a longer wheel base conversion. Having a routine with clothes in packing cubes helps. Neither of us really has the time for longer touring when we’re working. |

We are currently sat in a layby having a hot drink before heading to our next site. In an ideal world I would love a bigger campervan but that would also mean buying a car as the T6 is our only vehicle. Financially it is unlikely to happen so we make the most of what we have 😁 |

I would have been quite content witha short wheelbase VW (with a portapoti) on my own - but glad I got the extra space as Husband insists on coming with me - maybe I should have stuck to the tent? he refused to camp after the first time ![]() Maing the bed up every night was a small price to pay for having a bigger living space and both being able to get out bed in the night - we all have different priorities. |

We have a caravan with a bed that needs put away every day. We’re not sure what to do next; I spent years hating the thought of a caravan and yet I love this one (apart from the bed) so am very much a caravan convert. We always thought we wanted a camping van, but there’s a lot of compromises (including having to have it as a daily driver). We went to have a mooch about at Perthshire Caravans a couple of weeks ago and were totally overwhelmed with the choices available. And the MONEY you can spend… OMG!!! |

@Angus Clydesdale There are SO many options for both caravans and vans, aren’t there?! Mr Woo spent hours and hours researching online before we bought both the motorhome and our current van. I’m glad he did because we seem to have made the right choice each time. |
