Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Heard my first cuckoo this morning on a long walk in Dipton woods. Heard plenty of other birds but only managed to see a couple of blackbirds.

@steve,no don't think so, I'm more than happy with the experts opinion of buzzard. It is interesting how even moving slightly from your own patch that looks can change and deceive though, even behaviour being slightly different

There’s been a very light buzzard around here lately

We seem to have acquired a coal tit this morning. I’m sitting outside listening to a webinar while watching the birds and it’s been flitting backwards and forwards to the bird feeder for a good chunk of that.

Red kites were reintroduced to our region in 2001 on Loch Ken. It's been really interesting to see the spread of the species locally as they have bred successfully and the offspring seek new territories.

I was walking on the river about 5 miles south of out of town yesterday and was surprised to see a kite soaring above the scrub between the river and main road.

After bemoaning the lack of swift sightings on Friday - it's been about three weeks since I'd seen one - they made up for it on Saturday and Sunday with around eight soaring above in a clear, clear sky.

Brilliant.

Eight coincides with about my highest count. Haworth is a big sprawling place and there appears to be three or maybe four areas with swift but mostly it’s only four or five birds

We have lots of red kites here - one has just been circling overhead.

We see red kites here regularly. Just lately they are being mobbed by crows, but seem to take little notice.

No swifts, swallows or house martins around here. I guess that it's just the wrong environment for them.
