Bought a new bird feeder to put sunflower hearts in the other day. Squirrels destroyed it this morning. They'll happily leave the one full of seed alone though. Think I'll have to get one of the wire mesh cage types for sunflower hearts if that's what the squirrels are after - it won't stop them eating them, but may stop them chewing the bottom of the feeder off.... |

The squirrels actually stole one of our feeders and took it next door on Saturday night... It's now been returned (by the neighbour, not the squirrels bringing it back) and refilled so we'll see if they can be a bit more restrained with it this time. Some more squirrel food is on its way which may help distract them from the bird food. we're going to move the squirrel feeder a bit further away from the bird feeder too. |

No quite a bird but it does fly. Just spotted it on the house wall, I don't think it was there earlier. Anyone identify it? |

A new take on our bird feeders. Sparrowhawk (?) and (probably) ex-jackdaw? Not see those locally - well, within 2 or 3 miles. Plenty of buzzards & kites though. The hawk flew off with (fairly big) bulk of the prey as I was taking pics. But will examine feathers a bit later to see if I can identify what it was, |
