Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Here's the latest dot to watch: Dougie Zinis is having a go a Wainwrights Round and hopes to get close to John Kelly's time and maybe bring that record back to the UK. If you haven't heard of Dougie, he's the guy who broke the double BGR record last year and was second in the 2022 Spine. I wouldn't bet against him, he's very (very) strong and his formidable endurance. Link made public with his permission. live.opentracking.co.uk ultrarunnermagazine.co.uk

As good as Dougie is he has never shown that he has anything like John's pace (9 hours slower in the Spine and the Double BG record has never really had anyone from the top echelon have a go at it). So if he is going to get close he isn't going to be sleeping very much!

Hope he has better weather than Carol, for both his and his supporter's sakes :).

I'm not an expert in these matters and tend to get a bit lost in the fine analysis of them, but judging from his schedule there really doesn't seem to be much sleep scheduled in and I just can't comprehend how it's possible to function with so much effort involved. I guess we'll see. I also hope he has good weather, these WW attempts do seem to be cursed by bad weather. Apart from the legs that Simon supports of course :-)

At the very least he should be taken along as mascot. He should hire out his services to BGR attempts, it could be v. lucrative.

What happens if Simon turns up with someone who attracts bad weather ( eg Stolly? :-O )? Could he cancel out the threat of bad weather?

Mmmm, good point. This needs to be turned into an equation and worked out properly.

A day in Dougie is about 2 hours behind John and running within a few minutes of Carol. John had an hours sleep/rest at Ennerdale but Dougie has copied Carol and gone without sleep in the first 24 hours.

Interesting for me following Dougie. He has now passed the place Carol had her first longish sleep (Langdale) having only had shorter stops himself (I guess he may have squeezed naps in at Wasdale and/ot Hardknott) but is still approx an hour behind her time.

The weather has been a lot kinder to him than it was Carol at the same point, but I understand his plan is to really limit the stops and sleeps so her shoudl slowly catch up with her times.

Carol's next long sleep was at Kirkstone where she took 6 hours to wait out the worst of a storm. I assume Dougie will pass Carol at this point if not before.
