That makes obvious sense, and likewise a tendency for people to do it around a full moon.
No idea where I got the May idea from because the figures don't back it up.

SimonF is the master of picking good dates for BGR and JNLC attempts. Ask him to choose one and it's almost guaranteed to be perfect conditions.

I know someone who had the opposite luck, I think at least 3 times, including freezing conditions overnight in May which effectively derailed one attempt by leg 2, appalling winter-like rain in July or August.

July/August avoid, crap vegetation, changeable weather etc. Ah! But I supported a Lakes 24 hour record in August when conditions were perfect and the vegetation was managed...
You can never guarantee your weather but in general going May/early June and ignoring the daylight beacon of late June is generally a smart move because you get the plus of lower veg and a more settled weather system. I did my BG on the first weekend of July and when (because I was going the right way 😉) I came to descend Yewbarrow I was flabbergasted how much the bracken had grown in 3 weeks. In the Lakes the big growth spurt doesn't hit until June and often mid-June.

The vegetation wasn't terrible on mine in August to be honest. More surprising was getting a stunning weather window when Stolly was involved!

Stef and I went to see Stolly off on one of his (four?) unsuccessful attempts. I think he was going ACW and it was a Saturday morning. The rain was utterly biblical. He was mad going and would have been half drowned within minutes of starting for sure. I did the last leg of his successful round and it was a grand afternoon

I did a Leg 2 support on one of his unsuccessful rounds - hammered down with rain and had minimal visibility. Naturally

A Stolly BG attempt was always a great opportunity for testing new waterproofs and / or practising your navigation in car wash conditions
