Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I agree Ian. I got too worried about speed last year and it was only after a break this year I thought "I've run 2000 injury free miles in the last 2 years". I've got the base, and I can focus on speed a bit now, knowing that the basic endurance is there.

We *are* talking about improving 5k here. Gobi and Mic both have good ways of achieving this...

We had a beginner a copuple of years ago, a lady of about 40. She was a natural. Within two months of staring to run she did about 22 minutes in a 5k relay. She was so pleased that she went out to race again three days later*.

She damaged her ankle that day and has never run again.

mic - 40 miles is a fair base in terms of most of us, if what you are saying is that you trained quality rather than quantity. And the story of our lady runner shows that fast running DOES really require a base before we do speed.
